I wouldn't use either of them.

US Acoustics has them beat. http://www.crutchfield.com or thezeb.com

I am not sure about US Acustics amp ... they are considerable as low end amps like Jensen (90 bucks retail for an amp ... I don't trust that)
Eclipse and Rockford amps are consider as mid class to high end amps ...
Thanks

Between the two, it's a no brainer, the Rockford Fosgate amp. Those two amps are comparable as far as SQ and price with a slight edge going to the RF amp, look up the stats for each and you will see. Also, the RF amp will put out much more power (they are highly underrated amps) not to mention that RF amp you listed happens to be a Marine class amp so it will be much more durable and solid, (i.e. Water resistant, low heat, etc. durable enough to put in a boat). So again, between the two amps listed, the RF amp is the better amp without question. Not to say the Eclipse amp isn’t good, it is. It’s just that in this comparison that RF amp has the edge.

Eclipse are blah, they are much better at making head units that skip a lot. ...and Rockford Fosgate.. well... they are good for pushing subs...

Us Acuostics should be cleaner than both, and they always make at least rated power. They are inexpensive because they are "new." and us acoustics doesn't "price fix" like the more established brands do.

For example, RF has .05% THD, and USAcoustics has .01% thd.

ouch, looks like the eclipse has a .1% thd... that can't be right, must be a typo.. http://www.speakersound.com/index.ht...alog113_0.html

Nope.. .1% is right... http://www.autosound.co.nz/dynindex....amps/32440.htm

Now if you want a really good amp, look at ARC Audio, ZAPCO... Those are "high end" and enjoy THDs of like... .005% or less.

Even if you dont like US Acoustics, you should look at other amps. The 4 channel arc will run you around $950 or so. Ive seen them as low as $599 from "non authorised resellers"

I've got an ARc2100 ($499 retail, i believe the birthsheet put it at 120x2) on my Utopia component set, and it's unbelievable how clean it is.

What kind of speakers are you pushing? If just JL, Inifniti, POLK, Panasonic, or other speakers that can be bought at chain stores, you probably dont need to worry about finding one with the magic THD number of .01% or less.

What is THD. Obviously the lower the percentage the better, but what does this measure?

THD= Total Harmonic Distortion = falsified reproduction of an audio signal caused by change in the wave form of the original signal

Kale:

Do you actually own, or have you ever owned, a US Acoustic amplifier?

No, I own ARC Amplifiers. I have heard the US-Acoustics in application, (and plenty about them from http://www.caraudioforum.com ask for Nasty Totoro, he's one of the resident guru's ) and they are going into a system I'm building for a Camry.

One thing about measurements. There is no standard. One company could use THD @ 1k hZ, while others could use THD @ 20-20k hZ. BIG difference. BTW, seen the THD's on HIGH END TUBE AMPS!

True.. Same goes for a lot of other "audio measurements."

Like a Jensen or Sony watt VS an actual wat... :D
