Default Think I've decided what equipment to go with

Hey gang, some of you are much more stereo savvy than me, so I would appreciate your taking a look at what I've found and tell me if you think the following combo will work well together. Everything is going in an '89 coupe, and I'll have to rely on your expertise again on how to wire the thing together and size for the sub box. Anyway, here goes.

Kenwood KDC-X659 head unit
Kenwood KAC-849 600w amp
Infinity 505cs 5.25" Component speakers w/ crossovers
Infinity 6953i 6"x9" 3-way speakers
Infinity Kappa Perfect 10 sub

Any suggestions and comments are welcome. :)

O.K., you asked! :D

As far as the head units, I'm an Alpine fan, but if you liked the kenwood , go for it.

Can't say much for their amps, the sound quality never did anything for me. Kind of mediocre. I would look at a/d/s/, hertz, jl audio much better sounding for the price.

As far as the speakers, I don't have much good to say about Infinity, I know the are designed more for a price point that sound quality. Once again, I would look at a/d/s/, boston acoustics, JL Audio.

I think with the aboce, you will get a much better sounding system for your money.

Hope that helps.

ditch the perfect 10 and get the Image Dynamics IDQ10

the Perfect 10 is a nice sub, but is obsolete compared to the IDQ10. Power it with around 250 watts.

You dont really need 6x9's with a sub, so change to 6.5 or 5.25 inch speakers in the rear. I dont think the infiniti components are "loud" or "deep" enough to completely ditch your rear fill. Just make sure to use the time delay feature so the imaging isnt completely hosed up.

Get an Alpine head unit so you have the time delay feature
Forget the Kenwood amp, and get US Acoustics
they are better amps.

Of course, you can get a good component set and ditch rear fill entirely.

A little careful shopping, and you can have mid-high end components for the same price as entry level stuff such as Infiniti. I payed around $2000 for all high end components (but a mid end sub) and I've seen people pay $3500 for stuff that doesn't even compare. Shop around, you'll be glad you did. REmember those $1200 speakers in the store can be had for HALF that or less on the internet from places like sound domain and thezeb

Try the CL-51 on this page
http://thezeb.com/caraudio/CDT_Audio_Components.html

It comes with free rear speakers, and will literally barbeque the infiniti's in comparison.

power the rear speakers with head unit power, and hte fronts at 100x2 or so. (if you chose to even use the rear speakers after listening to the fronts here)

HTH.
