Default How much current consumption is too much for my C5?

I am looking for a five channel amp to run my whole system. I don't want to run more than one amp because I am afraid it will be too much of a strain on the electrical system. How much current drain is too much for a single amp in my 98? Also, any recomendations for a good low drain, multi-channel amp would be appreciated.
Thanks

I believe even 2 amps is okay if you have a good battery. I don't know the numbers though.

You should be ok if you don’t go over 500 to 800 watts, although, you may still get some light dimming. The problem is you have a 110 amp Alternator in the C5 and it is pretty much taxed to the limit with all the electronics in it. I would suggest you at least upgrade the electrical system wiring for the car.
The “Big 3” wires, just add this in addition to the stock wires.
Use at least 4-gauge Power wire and run from alt to battery pos. terminal.
Use at least 4-gauge Ground wire and run from battery neg. terminal to chassis and from engine block to chassis. That will certainly help a great deal for a minimal cost.

You might also want to eventually go with an Optima battery as well.

Well in my experience (seriously though) :smash: anything under about 30 amps should be fine with the cable and battery/capacitor upgrade

Anything over 50 amps you'll need a higher rated output alternator if the stereo will be at moderate/high volume levels for long periods of time.

I agree, ideally I would upgrade the alt. to at least 140 to 170 amp. You will also need to upgrade the "Big 3" wires like I mentioned in my earlier post and get a more stable battery such as an Optima Yellow Top (deep cycle). That would be the best course of action, however, if you just want to take it one step at a time since money may be an issue, then go for the electrical wire upgrade first (you will have to do this anyway if you upgrade the alt.) and perhaps a stiffening cap, depending on the system design.

Note: When upgrading the electrical system wire as described in my earlier post, remember to fuse the power wire from alt. to battery pos. terminal with an ANL fuse at what the alt. is rated at.
