Pioneer Avic-7200 vs. Alpine INE-W960

Yeah I had that same problem. I tried out some Sundown Audio 10's and by mounting depth they should have fit but they didn't and I had to buy some 3/4" spacer rings to get them in. That would be an option for you also if the Alpines are very close to fitting, the spacer ring will give you just enough clearance to mount them snug.
But then found out that it will not fit in a convert..

the new amazing alpine ilx107 made slickdeals dot net today.
$664 + a $200 newegg gift card. you can either use or resell that gift card to drop the price under what the 960 is selling for
3 day sale. if any of you are on the fence it's a great buy

it is which makes a sensitive amp or DSP / line driver mandatory. it's the cat's meow for a feature shopper though. wireless carplay. cap touch screen etc. would be a fine pairing with any JL amp even without a DSP. they operate very well on low voltage if necessary
newest deck in the alpine lineup. if you sell the gift card your total price is basically $500 if you clear 170 out of that 200 dollar card

One other thing, does the ilx-107 play DVD's/CD's?

The cap touch screen would be nice if it is brighter than my 960. That is my only gripe so far and I am glad I have a dark tint job cause without it I would have trouble seeing my screen, near impossible when wearing sunglasses but in my dark cockpit I can still see it.

at least you have a Z, could you imagine how bad decks would be in a vert?

Yeah that would be tuff to see in the sunlight for sure but something I will live with regardless and remain hopeful that Alpine combines a nice screen and features with their buttery smooth sound.

Well, considering some of the discussion in this thread I thought I should post this so others could hear about my experience. Here's what I found after swapping out the single din Pioneer 80PRS for the double din Pioneer AVH-X491BHS - which I’m told is basically a rebadged Pioneer AVH-X5800BHS.
I set the X491 to 3-way network mode which is how I had configured the 80PRS. I do not use an external DSP and I did not change anything other than the head units in the system. Once the X491 was installed, and after about an hour or so of tuning the system sounds very good, but I believe it still sounded a little better with the 80PRS.
The Pioneer P99, Clarion DRZ, and Eclipse 7200 were the best sounding HUs I've ever owned. And while I don’t think the Pioneer X491 sounds as good as any of those units either, it does sound great in my system. The bottom line is that the Pioneer X491 is just fine as a choice of head units when matched with good components, a good installation, and good tuning. I believe this would also be the case when using comparable Alpine or Kenwood AV HUs.
For reference, Zapco Studio amplifiers, Focal Utopia mids/tweets, and a Phoenix Gold Bass Cube for bass management of some 12 inch subs comprise the basis of my system.
ps. without any solicitation yesterday, my wife even mentioned while driving that the stereo "sounded really good" – which is rare that she would comment and she's heard all my systems.

you just have to find one you can live with as they all have bad habits. to me the alpine and eclipse and even that clarion drz copper deck sound great. pioneer i just don't like. judgement reserved on the 99 as it was the one they actually put work into and was marketed to be a competitor to the cd7200mk2. that deck i have not heard. in my area none of the higher end installs are using pioneer. it's all alpine or in rare cases that flagship eclipse 7200 which is just an amazing deck
you mention zapco for an amp. even within that brand there are amps i like and hate. love the z220ii, love the 1st gen z150, love the z300. hate the AG series and am nervous about the reference since they look so similar. the studio amplifiers on the other hand i'm fairly sure i would enjoy just because they were an evolution of the earlier gear i loved. phoenix gold. same story. LOVED the ZPA amps. hate the XS, all the low end stuff. liked the ZX and zero point even though they were wildly inefficient. some gear just creates a sound i like. if you have been at this awhile chances are you have a short list you also enjoy

head units all have their own sound just like amplifiers.

my concern was it may have a different output stage than their other current high end decks. the 960 and up all use the dedicated 4v / 24bit system and those are the ones sound pretty decent.
the 2v pre out would absolutely have me testing one before considering a purchase to see if SQ is maintained. historically the 2v alpine decks have been the crappy sounding ones. it's hard to believe they would use a low cost output stage on this deck but stranger things have happened
