C5 coupe rear speaker ? Please help. Me big dummy.

I was thinking of replacing the crap rear speakers in my coupe. So I went to the car stereo shop and he said they could not be replaced because of the impedence thing. Anyway he proceeds to tell me that I will need a 5 channel amp and replace also the front speakers. Hang on this gets better, he says only $1500.00 and no head unit. For that I think I should have gotten some head LOL. Anyway can I just replace the rear speakers with aftermarket like Pioneer? I think they are 6 1/2" rounds. And how do the grill covers come off, just pry them? Any wiring concerns?

The rear speakers are standard 4 ohm speakers. Pry off the cover, pull one out and get a 2 or 3 way replacement.

For the rear in mine I used CDT Audio Cambria 7's. It took a bit of adapting and overcoming but I got them in and they work great.

I think they are bi-sexual and go both ways. Sorry couldn't help myself. Really though I don't have a freakin clue.

He means do they have a little speaker centered in front of the larger woofer behind? I'm not the C5 expert but it sounds like the shop is thinking in C4 bose terms, not C5. I'd go to another shop. As to pioneer speakers, skip them. They suck.
