Default Rear Speakers

Hi All,
When stock, I had the Bose system. Since then, I have replaced the head unit, speakers and added an amp. My problem is that there is practically no bass from the rear 6x9's. I checked polarity and it is fine. Does the non-Bose system have a different enclosure for the rears? IMHO, it would sound better if there weren't so many openings for air to escape.

Please advise.

Thanks

I'm currently experimenting with the bose 6 3/4 ported rear baffle. I have a 90 and since yours is an 89 it's the same cubic volume..spelled rear 1/4 panel space. The 6x9 tempted me, getting junkard 6x9 plates and going that route. Didn't do it since engineers at BOSE had to have CAD'd the port and basically tuned the 1/4 area for more bass out of an oversized 6 3/4 driver.

I cannot confirm this theory yet but I know what kind 6x9 bass sounds like. I prefer the 6 3/4's, it's tighter and a bit more natural. Boom is possibly the greatest challenge, how much are u looking for?

Not really looking for "boom", I have a sub for that. However, when I remove the sub (to put the top down), the resulting bass is not what should be expected from 6x9's. Even the tiny Bose speakers in thier enclosures would yield more bottom-end than 6x9's.

I'm confused.

They need to be sealed. You should replace the plates in the back with MDF panels sealed to the openings with 6x9 holes cut in them and mount them to the new panels. Also, I'd try Boston Acoustic RX97 speakers. Great bang for the buck and good bass for a 6x9.

My plan is the Boston 6x9 and a Bazooka 10 inch powered sub for REAL bass.!!! :D

Staring at the gaping delco-bose HU hole confuses me. Anyway, 92 has good advice. I tried some POLK 602a's with the stock baffle. Boom is maximizing the efficiency of the driver to the enclosure. Seems the Vette 1/4 panel is a decent size but the acoustic characteristics aren't ideal for bass I guess...fiberglass limitations perhaps. Still is a very small cubic enclosure therefore, it is bass challenged due to size alone.

Strengthening the baffle, using plywood or mdf would have benefits I'm sure. If that is the approach, I would step up to larger drivers like 8" rounds. You will get more punch from two 8's over 6x9's.

I cannot find any info on the size of the chamber, I will be experimenting for a few weeks. I have some Dynamat which may or may not yield results. Seems the Porting of the 1/4 is not all a bad idea for boom, just hard to match drivers to replace the stock ones, for the BOSE that is.

MDF= Medium Density Fiberboard. You can get it at Home Depot. MUCH better than plywood.
