Like said above tracking down rattles is trial and error, however, there are some rule of thumb thing you can do to reduce rattles and by doing so may just knock out the rattle you have in the process.
First, sound dampen the doors, don’t waste your money on Dynomat, look into something like B-Quiet “Brown Bread” or Rammat. These two products work just as well as Dynomat extreme and for a fraction of the cost. You can read up on Brown Bread here:
www.b-quiet.com
After using about 3 to 4 layers of sound dampening material on the doorframe. Put a ¼” piece of either carpet padding or “egg crate” foam (
the stuff you put on beds to make then softer) in-between the door panel and the doorframe. Also make sure the speaker grill is on tight, it is just attached with little tabs that are bent around slit in the door panel and can be loose if not checked. Then remove the Bose emblem on the speaker grill and reattach it with double-sided tape to eliminate that as a potential rattle.
I would also recommend sound dampening the entire car with about 4 layers of Brown Bread or other sound dampener but if you just want to do the rear hatch area, that too will greatly reduce exterior sound from entering the car as well as reduce resonant frequencies and increase SPL inside the vehicle.
If after all of that you still have rattles then you my friend are cursed with a gremlin and I don’t envy your ensuing hunt for it.
Good luck.
