I am redoing the interior and installing a decent stereo in my '78, and I was wondering what security system to go with. I have been looking at offerings from Clifford and Viper as well as IC Dynamics. The Cliffords are at Best Buy while the Viper is at Circuit City. The ICD systems are what my istereo installer carries. I want my system to be secure, but I also want it to roll up my windows, etc. All the systems I am looking at come with a remote starter as well, ehich is a plus. I am also going to have power door lock actuators added to get power locks. I would also like a decent range on my remote. I don't need anything superspecial, but I want to find the best I can for around $500 or so. Any thoughts or suggestions? TIA,
Get the Clifford. Do not get it at best buy. Alarms are more difficult to install than sterios. Clifford alarms are the best but also the most difficult to install properly. Go to a qualified top end sterio shop and get it. Don't let the neighborhood kid do the work.
The problem is, Best Buy only sells their security systems installed. I knew I didn't want them to do my stereo as it is a custom job all the way. Any suggestions as to where I might find a reputable Clifford dealer in Central IL? The place doing my stereo only sells their own house brand (as variant of the above-mentioned ICD). Which Clifford model should I be looking at? I think the highest-end model at Best Buy was the Matrix. Thanks for your help!
I was gonna go with this alarm but it has been discontinued so I went with the next model down (Can't remember the model right now). Having a custom install as we speak. I bought it from CarToys. I got all the bells and whistles with it. The install is gonna take 2 days or so. From what I here, to install an alarm in a C5 is no easy task, be prepared to spend some cash.
It's a small sealed 12V motorcycle battery that I put in the rear compartment. I have a solar charger connected to it. I have since seen 12V batteries at Radio Shack that look like lantern batteries for half the price of the cycle battery. I made all my wiring connections in the living room with the cycle battery, drew a wiring diagram when everything was working then transfered it to the C5. I took a long time but I don't have to worry about my problems with my Corvette wiring. Also I have to carry an extra remote and the pager. My system is a pager and warning system. It does not disable the ignition. I'm letting the stock alarm do that.
