This might sound like a stupid question, but I've had the idea for a long time. Has anyone ever take a factory double DIN and put a single DIN stereo with a custom cubby hole underneath for CDs and stuff? Is this even possible due to the limited space?

I just did it in a C4. Used a Metra dash pocket kit. Tight fit but it turned out pretty nice.

I looked on their website for C4 corvette and a C5 corvette, but didn't find the pocket kit. Do you have to use a universal GM one? I'm planning on putting it in a C5.

The C5 is a din and a half, not a double din. It needs a different kit. For the C4 '91+ I used the din pocket from Metra.

I found the C4 kit on their site (finally), but didn't see one for a C5. Is this because a DIN and a half would be too small to put a pocket underneath?

Din and a half is to small for a pocket. The best looking kit to me is the one that mounts the radio in the middle with half of the space above and half below. Works out to about 1/4" of plastic on each spot. The other option is with a half din blank below. This is nice for mounting alarm LEDs, gauges, switches, or emblems. Hope this helps.

So...for a 91 C4, what would the correct Metra kit be?

Does anyone have a part number for a 91 c-4 metra kit? I've looked and looked at the Metra web site and tried emailing them a couple times with no luck. Is this a universal kit? Or is it specific to the late c-4. Or do I just need to fabricate something?

I've just purchased a Metra kit #88-00-9000 for use on the bottom of my installation. It looks like it should do the trick.

Yes, I did the install myself, I waited until I had everything else done first before I bought the pocket. Simple matter of removing the head unit again and fitting the kit. Of course everything I've done with this project hasn't been "simple". I was happy with my results, but I'll admit to it being a more involved project than I thought it would be. :smash:
