Can you summarize what harnesses and gadgets you used for this install. I'm pretty much settled on the Z140BH for my 2007 Convertible and I don't want to use the Double D guys because of the price. I can get a good price from Amazon ($869) for the HU and I'd like to order all of the cables and XM stuff to have it all in hand for a 1 hit installation.

I'm staying with the OnStar, Bose, XM, iPod/iPhone4s and Steering Wheel controls.

What is this "Nub" that you cut off for proper clearance to the screen?

TIA

Elmer

Z140 radio with install package(radio, harness dash kit, antenna adapter, Xm, SW controls and Ipod cable)
1200.00 shipped if you call to order
subtract the 100.00 mail in rebate and that makes it 1100.00
plus you get a warranty and we can honor the rebate. There is no warranty on anything bought from Amazon and no rebates honored as well

if you go to Amazon and shop by item as I just did
radio 869.00
harness 90.00
sw controls 40.00
ipod 39.00
xm 85.00
dash kit 11.00
ant adapter 7.00
no shipping 1134.00

so no rebate
no warranty
no shipping figured in on Amazon
your 34.00 higher out of pocket

no prewire for install
your sure to get correct harness
and your Sw controls are programmed for you as well

The nub is what the stock radio mounts into to hold it straight. Buy the PAC unit and you are set on the wiring. Check out AVIC411 forums for specifics. I posted a thread over there as well.

After a few months I'm happy except with the level of bass versus the highs.

It seems I need to really crank the volume to get good highs and this makes the bass way too high. Some guy in another thread said you can overdrive the stock amp, how do you do that?

Also are the stock equalizer settings in the stock radio or in the amp. I sometimes think my equalizer settings from the stock radio are stuck in the amp and I'm applying the new equalizer settings from my HU over them. Or it could be I'm crazy.

I might also have to up the volume on my PAC unit. This could be the source of my issues.

At this point I have to take the dash apart later this year to install my MGW Shifter. At that point I'll mess around with the volume option on the PAC.

But anything I can do before then would be helpful. Since I think the PAC Volume is only part of the issue.

OEM amp doesn't do any EQ, but it does filter out a few frequencies here and there, if that makes sense. Lack of highs is more because of the speakers. Something like this would get the most out of the HU without doing full aftermarket amp/speaker setup. Volume adjustment on pac may help, may not, I'm guessing not much if it does.

No idea about 'overdriving' oem amp, got a link?

Someone in another thread was talking about it. But he didn't provide specifics. I'll link to the post.

Thanks for the link, I think. Just one more reason for me to stay away from any section that has 'General' in it.

I've got aftermarket speakers except for the 10" Woofers. However I'm using the Stock Amp.

I've thought about ditching the stock amp but I'm too lazy to rewire all my speakers and I'd like to keep OnStar functionality.

After 18 months I can say that I made a few changes. I bought a nice Y Splitter and hooked up the two stock XM Antenna's (One is for Satellite the other for Ground Repeaters). My dropouts still occur, but are less frequent than the provided Aftermarket antenna.

My feeling is that the aftermarket XM unit is more sensitive than the stock one, which most likely compensated for the antenna choices GM made.

I'm debating moving my Bluetooth microphone since the upper A-pillar seems like a poor spot for it.
