Megapixels aren't everything. Unless you're needing serious blow-ups for printing, a 2MP or 3MP camera will be amazing for you. Figure out if size, easy of use, media type, etc. are more important to you.

I've had 4 different Kodak digital cameras over the years, and I don't think I'd buy another. They haven't kept pace with the rest of the pack.

I just recently replaced the digi cam I keep in the car.. I had a 1MP Kodak and replaced it with a 2MP Nikon CoolPix 2500. Check that one out -- it's ultra-compact, reasonably priced, and takes as good as pictures as you can get.

If you need really high quality for large prints, check out the Nikon CoolPix 995, the new 5MP D1, or the 4MP Olympus model that's out. All of those are outstanding.

I'll post a couple pics comparing the 2500 and the 995 my wife has in just a minute...

I've got a Nikon Coolpix 995 and Love it! I had a Panasonic before, and it just wasn't all that great. Neither were the two Sony's that I have used in the past.....

The 995 right now will be about $599.

There is an 885 model that just came out that has the same CCD quality as the 995, but fewer optical features and is quite a bit smaller. It also doesn't have a pan/tilt built-into the camera. It's $499 or maybe cheaper.

Warning, the 995 is an advanced camera. It's rather large, and pretty complicated to use well. If you don't enjoy learning about the camera, you should consider another one. :)

And hey, for $1100, you can get the cool Nikon D1, with 5.5MP! :)

Oh, be sure to check out http://www.dpreview.com - they have the most scientific approach to reviewing cameras out there. Good info.

Definitely check out those reviews; and here's a good place to check prices: http://www.buydig.com

I think one of the best deals around is the Fuji Finepix 2600; it's a 2.1 Mpixel, 3x optical zoom, and includes NiMH batteries and charger- around $209.

Other good ones in this 2M resolution are Canon A20 and Olympus D510; a bit pricier and you'll spend $40 on the batteries/charger. If you've got a little more to spend the Canon S30 is an awesome 3Mpixel camera for around $500.

DO NOT BUY ONE UNTIL you check out the Sony Mavica CD series. I recently got the 2.1 megapixel one. It uses a mini-CD ROM inside to store the pictures on. One CD can hold like 1000 pictures. No additional memory cards to buy. It's cool as poopie I guarantee. Check them out.

BTW, I picked mine up off ebay NEW for $430 plus shipping.

Ok for my 2 cents worth. I have an older Kodak dc 280 & although it takes great "snap shots", it doesn't have a very good zoom. When I start looking for a new one (very soon) I will not concentrate on mega pixels & effects as much as the zoom & storage ability. As far as the Sony operation, memory sticks & mini cd's for storage seem to be way to expensive for me.

When looking for a camera, I think you should find one mim. 2 mega pixels with a long zoom & the ability for quick change storage memory that isn't so expensive. Again just MHO.

I would recommend an Olympus C-700. I don't own one yet, but have been borrowing one. (thanks again Glock'94!) It's easy to use and has a 10x optical zoom! I've been watching the prices for new ones on E-bay and they are running between $300-400 right now.

This pic was taken with this camera. Be forewarned, it's HUGE!

Some more Kodak pics. Mine is a DX3500, 2.2 mega pixels. When these were taken, is was over cast out. These were also taken at low resolution.
