Default How to get rid of C5 door speaker panel rattles?

I've recently upgraded all my speakers in the C5 and when I turn things up a bit, it seems the front speaker grills just buzz like mad.

What did you guys do to fix this?

It's not the speaker grill's.....It's the windows :mad I'm in the process of finding a fix for it. I'm currently running Dynaudio 7's and it's also driving me

No, its the speaker grills. If I touch the grills the buzzing stops.

What part of the windows rattle? I'm sure they are doing that too, but right now the loudest things are the grilles.

If it's your grill's - remove the door panel and line it with some cheap carpet. I've done that and it helped alot. But I'm pushing about 250 watts per door and I have a little work to do....

Hmmmm, I wonder if I will be ok with 80 wrms on a set of Focal 165k2's and a full covering of Cascade vb2hd?

It should be enough ... the Focals , as far as I know , cannot be bi-amped ... I am installing MB Quart PSD 316's in which the 6.5Woofer can handle 75W ... and the MIdrange & Tweeter get the other 75W ...

I am going to be using a 300/4 JL Audio Amp which gives 75WRMS on each channel and bi-amp each side ... and leave the rears alone, unconnected... and then Push a Sub with a 500/1 ... most likely a IDMAX 12 ... or 10 (If its out by summer)...

Welcome to the world of hi-end car stereo! :D
Two words….”sound dampening” ;)

With the kind of power that you will be running to your doors there is no way around it, you must sound dampen the door, door frame and door panel. Try using either Raamat or Be-Quiet “BROWN BREAD”. They will give you the best results for the price. I have 4 layers on each door and 2 layers with carpet padding on each door panel. I have the Image Dynamics CSX62’s in my doors with 250 wrms to each. The sound dampening is a MUST! I would also recommend at least dampening the rear hatch area as well. The hatch area is a source of rattles under bass frequencies. As far as small, individual rattles, you may have to resort to silicone/rubber weather stripping to quell them. It’s a search and destroy, tedious job but unfortunately has to be done. :(

Your systems sound nice, got any pics to share? Would love to see some!:yesnod:

Good Luck! :)

So to pad the door I just take the skin off and put padding where stuff might rattle against or what? This is my first stereo buildup ever......I can do ls1 heads and cam installs myself, but stereo stuff is all new to me.

Anyways, I built an amprack out of MDF, Lexan, Carpet and Neon...its about 90% complete (still needs the roof to hide the wiring)...its here:

BTW, the neon *REALLY* screws with the RCA signal. I gotta look into sheilding the RCA wires now.

Building the sub box now:

Looking good jmx. I see you are useing the same Rockford Fosgate Stealth Twisted purple RCA's that I'm useing. Good signal wire. As soon as I finnish my flush mount install I'll post some pics. I lack one crossover panel being finished. :yesnod:

jmX -

Probably late on this one, but just read your post on buzzing grilles. I had the same problem - it was the Bose emblem in the center. Buzzed like a madman, but just at certain frequencies. SuperGlue did the trick.

It is the styrofoam panel that is inside the door panel. You will need to remove the door panel, which is not tough if you follow the sequence. Then what I did is use a combo of hot glue gun (Heavy duty glue) and silicone sealant and no more rattle. You will need to allow a 24 hour cure time and it will take a few days for the silicone sealer smell to go away. If you need more help, repost. Regards!!!!
