Re: About to buy a setup for my C5, what do you think of this: (MitchellDavidson)
Not sure about the Pioneer equipment or Alumpro subs, but the Zapco amps are very good. I would recomment checking out Focal compontents up front. I ordered a set of 165k2's for my car. They sound phenominal. :yesnod:
I sure do love installing my own equipment. I am doing the whole system for under $2200 with some very good equipment (including damping the entire car). I just can't stand leaving my car with the rip off artist audio shops. Installing a car audio system isn't rocket science. :crazy:

Sounds very cool, except I have never heard of Zapco amps. Next week I am getting a similar install ... same head unit and CD changer, 1 Precision Power amp, a/d/s 346 speakers front, JL 5 1/4 for rear fill speakers, JL stealth sub, XM radio. Same price range ... a little less.
Where did you hear about these Zapco amps? Everything else sounds really good.

Zapco amps have been around at 'least' the last 15 years..
Hey Cory, I assume you damped the hatch. Did you dampen the doors and/or the passenger floors too? How much of a difference did it make?
Sounds to me like most of the road rumble comes from the hatch, and I was thinking about putting dynamat or an equivalent back there. But I'm wondering how much of an effect it will have.
Seems to me like dynamat would be real good at stopping high-frequency vibration, but might not be so good at stopping low-frequency vibration.
But I've never ridden in a car before/after dyanmat was added, so I have no idea what the actual effect is. Particularly in a C5, which could 'really' use something to shut that rumble up... Thanks.

What subs would you recomend? He wanted to install cheeper Eclips subs at first, but I wanted something a little better. :) I am also considering a JBL 1200.1 amp instead of the 2 Zapco's.
Would focal's sound better than MB Quarts? :confused:

Well James, I have not done the car yet. I have part of the material sitting in my bedroom but need to order some more stuff. I am not "damping" the hatch. I am going to use Cascade Audio VB-4 which is a sound barrier pad. I am actually going to dampen the wheel wells and back wall of the hatch and then use the sound barrier on top of that.
Here is my plan for damping/quieting the car down (all products are Cascade Audio):
doors -> VB2HD (damping pad)
drive hump -> VB3.5 (sound barrier with lead septum for nonflat surfaces)
hatch/floorpan/wall behind seats -> VB4 (sound barrier for flat surfaces)
Once the project is done, I will post the results.

MB's just have a little different sound than the Focals. Really must hear them to appreciate. Don't get rapped up in he said/she said who's best arguements. Listen before you buy!!!!! What sounds good to someone else can sound like poopie to you, everyone's ear is different. Maybe try giving Diamond Audio a try as well. There M5 and Hex sets are nice.
As for the Amp, please, stay with the Zapco over the JBL, you truly get what you pay for, IMHO.
