How do you add audio alternate audio tracks to a video in Quicktime?

I am trying to add some alternate audio tracks to a quicktime video clip using Quicktime pro on a windows PC. When I try to "add" an audio track "extracted" from another video file the entire audio file doesn't transfer. It's a little tiny file and there is no audio. Does anyone know what might be the problem? Is there a good windows editing program for creating Quicktime video files that would make this easier?
