Default DNX6140 picture support -- I'm stumped

I recently installed the Kenwood dnx6140 in my c6 and everything works great except being able to view pictures. I do have the parking wire grounded and have changed the boot screen and background, but when i plug in usb drive with jpg images, they are greyed out. They are in the .jpg format and all under 512kb. I converted a couple of movies to mpeg1 and put some mp3s on there to boot and they all play fine. I can not figure out how to get these pictures to display. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I will try.

1. What format is the USB drive? I have both Mac and PC and found that for some reason, they are more fond of PC formatting.

2. Does the unit "see:" the USB drive?

3. Have you tried with fewer pics and vids?

As an FYI, I have a DNX-9140 with a 16gb USB and iPod. The 16gb USB is arguably slower but I do watch movies easily and pics as well.

1. Fat 32

2. Yes, I can play MP3's and video off of the same drive. The unit see's the picture files, but they are greyed out.

3. Yes, I have tried with just one picture and made sure it was under 512kb.

I am almost to the point of giving up. oh well
