Default need help from someone who has replaced factory system

i am about to get 2007 Z06 with factory nav, i plan to yank and replace the oem nav pretty soon after i get the car.
i understand there are 8" speakers in the doors. i am a big fan of large front speakers so i was excited to learn the vette has 8" in the doors.
ive been an installer for about 10 years professionally and for the last 12 years been out of the game
i see that JL makes 8" speakers that look like they might be a good fit for the bose speakers, but it looks like i have to add a set of tweeters as they dont come as component sets.
as for the HU for the time being i plan to just swap it out untill i get around to amps, subs and new speakers.
for the time being, is it a simple matter of using some interface that allows install of aftermarket HU and run the oem bose speakers and amps?
the car has onstar which i want to retain
ive read the sticky pages but havnt found exactly the questions i need answered.
being that i have years of install experience can someone tell me a simple list of components i need to replace the OE nav and retain onstar
and what the options are for front speakers.
i would like to go 8" but are there any clearance issues without major modification?
ive installed a component set consisting of 6x9 and tween in my tacoma which i like so that may be a second option.
thoughts?

Adapters: GMAH24B and GMAHCM

Click here for detailed info why and for the other basic stuff.

The C6 has 2 speakers in each door. 10" self amplified subs and 3.5" twiddlers. Without doing a complete amp/speaker/sub conversion, all you can really do for now is replace the 3.5" twiddlers with a standard 4 ohm 3.5" 2-way. Boston S35 and Polk db351 are popular.

Steering wheel controls can also be retained, but the adapter is specific to the brand of HU you get.

This thread gives a great overview of how to swap everything out, and shows where most of the wires are also.

The '07 radio schematics and plug pinouts can be found here.
