Default Help! Abut to take the plunge with new HU...

OK Team. I am really hoping someone can help me out here. I have an '09 Coupe and I think I am ready to swap out the stock Bose HU, which is awful. I am NOT starting from scratch, however. I currently have an Alpine PDX-5 amp and Boston Acoustic speakers, along with a JL sub installed. I connected them to the factory HU using the ADD-GM24 harness with the RCA connectors soldered on. It works OK, much better than stock, but I am still lacking mid-bass and the highs are way too loud. The stock HU also has some noise leftover that I can't cure. In any case, I simply HATE the stock HU so I need to pull it.

HERE IS WHERE I NEED SOME HELP.....Please help me so I can try this at home!

* VSS Wire - I downloaded the manuals from Pioneer and Kenwood and it looks like in order to make the new Nav HUs work, I need to connect to a Vehicle Speed Sensor wire. I have NO IDEA where this is in a C6 Coupe, or how hard it is to find a wire to make a splice. This is my #1 concern.

Reverse/Emergency Brake Wires? - As best as I can tell, I also need to make splices to a reverses wire, and an emergency brake wire, presumably for safety reasons. Again, I have NO IDEA where these wires are located, or how difficult it would be to tap into them. These are my #2 concerns

Wiring Harnesses - To hookup the head unit itself, likely the Pioneer unit, what harness do I need to connect power, switched power, dimmer, etc.? I already have RCA jacks run for the audio signal, but I am not really sure what I have back there once I pull out the Factory Bose unit. I feel like I am missing something here. This is my #3 concern.

* Onstar - I would like to be able to keep the Onstar feature. I am not sure what harness(es)/modules I need as I already have an aftermarket amp installed. Also, as I had the original work done by an audio shop, I am not sure if my stock amp is still there. Having said that, OnStar currently DOES work with my setup, so I assume the amp is still there. What exactly do I need to keep my OnStar setup with the aftermarket HU/Nav?

Bezel - I have seen the threads on the Metra bezel and this is a small concern at this point, but does anyone know DEFINITIVELY which model number has the smooth finish? I would like to avoid the sand and paint routine if I can.

Rearview Camera - this is my "bonus question". I would love to hookup a rearview camera and was curious if anyone has figured out how to do this "easily". My primary concerns are running the wires to the HU, and any cutting I may have to do to install the camera and route the wires. I am thinking of a license plate camera.

OK Guys. THANK YOU in advance for your help. I REALLY want to take the plunge but I need to get clear answers to the questions above so I can order what I need and get up the courage to to do the install.

This thread will show you where the wires are, and probably answer most of your questions. If you need a dimmer wire there's one at the traction control button that works (I forget the color, but the search button is your friend ).

Peripheral is by far the most reliable supplier for the interface adapters. You need the GMAH24 and the GMAHCM to keep OnStar functional with an aftermarket HU. This thread has more details.

On Pioneers you can't just ground the ebrake to do the DVD defeat, but it isn't that hard to do. Check out the forums at AVIC411.com for info about your specific model.

Check out this thread for camera suggestions.

Did I miss anything?

OK - Very good. Just what I needed and I am feeling good about things. As far as the steering wheel controls go, I know there are PAC modules for those, but has anyone figured out how to make the "bluetooth" button on the '09 vettes work with an aftermarket HU? Just curious. Thanks again. What great forums.

The schematics from my '07 manual are available here, if you can find and post the '09 steering wheel schematics I'm sure we could figure something out.

Mark - this is great stuff. THANKS for the help. I am going to try to track down the schematics for the '09 steering wheel controls. It would be sweet if I could get the bluetooth button to work. Thanks again-
