Default Wire colors

I cut open a headphone extension cord (1/8" also 3.5mm), expecting to find 3 wires:
Bare wire (common)
White wire (left audio)
Red wire (right audio)

Which is what I've always seen when messing with audio wires.

Instead, this time, I find Red, Black, and a bare wire... is it safe to assume the black is the left audio? Has anyone come across this?

I would go along with your thinking....The bare MUST be the common so yes, I would assume black is left positive.
