Default Mcintosh system...

I was planning on building a system in my 93 around a mcintosh 4x100. Have any of you had any experience with these amps. Are they worth the cost? I am thinking about driving into edison nj (two hours from my house) to listen to a dealers Bmw m3. I am not sure what speakers he is running though. If the mcintosh is worth the money what should i drive with it. I was thinking diamond hex series. What do you say... It is a minidisc system by the way. Price from the closest authorized dealer for the mcc404m was 1899. pretty pricey.

For you to properly enjoy the Mc's you need a suitable environment. And the inside of the Vette isn't that environment. At least in my opinion.

MCs are great amps. Jeffvette is saying that since the car is louder than normal you won't notice the difference between a top amp and a good amp as much as say in a lexus. To each his own. I like them but your system is only as good as your weakest part. If you don't have top line from deck to speaker including wires its probably a waste. You'll want to get good speakers and a good headunit to go with it and not just the amp unless you plan to upgrade later. What dealer? I used to install for a dealer in Edison.

The dealer is lee's auto video. Price for the mcc404m from him is $1900. Head is going to be either a Kenwood excellon kmd-x92 or a nak md-45z. It is hard to find minidisc headunits that are really high quality. Speakers are going to be diamond hex or focal utopias (see other post). If the mcintosh is really going to make a difference then i would get it. Other amp i was looking at was a nak 100x4. Price difference between the two amps is about $1500, not something to be taken lightly. Thanks.

Talk to Al at Highway audio. Much better dealer. I installed there for 3 years. He's just down the road from lee. Much better installation shop. He carried Nak but might not anymore. I like the nak stuff alot. Far superior to the kenwood pieces. You also might want to check out an alpine 7878 if you want MP3. He can get anything but may not carry everything. His head salesman is Peter McCabe. I assume he is still there as he was there for 20+ years and was there last year. Tell him Greg Bender sent you and he'll take care of you. They have a much better installation crew and will take out any equipment installed and put the car back to stock for free. They also give you free trial periods where you can exchange for different stuff if you don't like what you got. To get there, take 80 to 287 south to River Road. Follow River road to Rt 18 south. Take 18 south a couple of miles to Rt 1 north. Highway audio is on the left about a mile up. Lees a little past there. If you have any other questions, let me know. Hope this helps.
