Help Required - Kenwood Install - C5

I just installed my Kenwood DNX 7120 and have a small question about the constant 12 V supply. There is a 15 Amp fuse on the back of the unit. Do I need to install an inline fuse in the 12V constant supply wire? Can this supply come from the cigarette lighter wire or should I run directly to the battery?

re check your ground and then your accessory with a dmm

You don't have to run an inline fuse, but it is cheap insurance. I'd rather my headunit never see that spike in current that would cook your fuse. You can use the cigarette lighter power, but I would go from the battery. I figure the odds of picking up noise is decreased that way, but I am no expert

Thanks Mr Peebody. I went directly to the battery with an inline fuse. Everything is working great except the Bluetooth. I am going to start another thread on that.

why not just get it from the oem harness?

Initially I got it from the OEM harness. The unit wouldn't run. At first I thought it was a bad H/U, so I took it back. They bench tested it and said it was ok.

. I tested the voltages again and found that the voltage from the OEM harness was 1.5 volts less than the switched voltage. I then ran a wire directly from the battery and it worked perfectly. I am at a loss as to why the OEM wire didn't work, but at this point I don't care.
