Default 92 Hi-Mid soundstage sucks- What to do next?

OK -Where do I put these 6 1/2" mids and 1" tweeters (components)?
I want good stereo sound, but I've already found out that the stock locations suck!

This is what I have so far
I put new 5 1/4"s up in the front side foot pods (stupidest location EVER! LEG BLOCK)
Pro/competition 6x9's in the rear. (Also lacking in clarity -it's nice that they point at the back of the roof! )
And a Rockford Punch Sub and Sub amp (no problem with the bass!)

So to improve the high freq sound, I bought the separates. Now I can't find where to put them.
I want to leave the stupid 5 1/4's in the useless pods, for something up front (even though its not the best)

I was thinking behind the driver somewhere- like installing the 6" mids in front of the wheel-well,
with the tweeters on the pillar behind/beside the headrests. Do you think this would this work? Is there any room?

I have truck style 6x9 portable-sealed boxes that I can cut up and refab for this project to mount the 6 1/2" mids.
The tweeters have pods- so I can put them anywhere.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried this? Will the sound suck no matter what I do?

FT, Penta is right. I am in the process of removing my complete system and going w/ a more powerful amp, better speakers, subs, and a new HU. If you don't have an amp pushing your components, you'll have a hard time hearing them; and if you have an ampped sub and 6x9's in the back, the 6x9's are a waste, you can't hear them over the sub.
Best thing to do is to lose the 6x9's so they don't mess up your front sound stage, and get an amp for the front speakers. You can also try mounting the tweeters up higher in the car, I have seen them mounted into the dash, the top of the door, or to the "A" pillars. Take a look at the "What Do You Run" sticky at the top of the section.

Randy

This is what I am doing for my tweeters this time around.

pioneer 400W 4 ch.
It's loud! It's not distorting!
Just phase shifting (depending on movement) + Leg BLOCK!

that's why I want to keep what I have, and just place the new components where they will put my system more in line (Stereo sound-wise) with our honda.
The civic sounds better, and crisper even at 75% volume un-amped (17W MAX!!)
This because of good location- and a decent factory system!
But it can not go half as loud as mine.

The components are 240W max- 40 nominal. So I will hook them up woth another amp, or drop the 6x9's and hook them up to the pioneer.
I may even just replace the 6x9's and put the 6 1/2 incher in there, then point the tweeter domes from the rear...

Still would like to see if anyone here has done this "middle set of speakers" sound.

(So it would be like a 6.1 Surround sound! )

I've checked the "my set-up" link MORE than a few times. Not much for late C4's....
UNLESS you have Gobs of money to re-fabricate the entire interior+doors+dash+pillars+cargo area+make a lighted amp rack! (not I)

I don't have any fiber glassing knowledge, so I have a R.F. 10" P2 Sub Box just bolted in the back with a 200 W Rock Fosgate Amp.
(Someday the sub will go in the storage bin! )

Everything else looks stock- so I guess I'll drop the 6x9's and try the components in the back.
Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Believe me, I know what you mean. My DD is 2000 Toyota Solaria, and the factory speakers w/ an Eclipse CD4000 hu sounds pretty darn good.
I think the reason is the speaker placement.
So you have 100 watts going to your front speakers? If that's the case, and you are still unhappy, the only alternative is "raise" the front sound stage. Do a search, there are lots of people who have put speakers into the doors of the later cars, just takes some work. I am thinking of putting some 4" mid's in my doors (3 way system) when everything else is done.
Music is supposed to come from in front and beside you, not from the rear. As for putting speakers in the back of the car pointing forward, you would not go to a concert and sit w/ your back to the stage, would you? I guess I think that would be a bad idea. As I said, just keep the bass in the rear, and amp the front speakers. Just try it, if you don't like it, you can always change it back. As for the amp, you can bridge it so that all of the power goes to just the front speakers.

Randy

If your going to go w/ different speakers, try the 6.5's up front in place of the 5.25 mids.

then where should I point the sub for best sound in a C4?
Here's my trunk space- seats are purple for demonstration use only!

Here is the only pic I have of the box for now.

It's flat on front- but sloped in the rear (apparently to be able to be placed at the back of rear seats nice and flush)

I have it in the rear passengers corner- pointing forward now, like in first example. But I've read it's better to point to the rear sometimes.
Anyone have any experience with this?
It's a coupe- so it has those weird angles... I could even put it facing up-angled forward slightly.

Which is Best?
(I don't want to do the sub in the storage bin yet- maybe next winter I will!)

edit-
Oh, and I will be putting an amp rack in there somewhere, I couldn't fit the new amp under the seat, so I'll be busy for a while! Since they will be out in the open I'm bolting everything together to help avoid sticky fingers.
I just want to know the best spot to LOCK IT IN -without having to annoy the neighbors all weekend getting the "right tone!" at 115 dB
Anyways, thanks for the help guys- it'll sound great with all this help I'm getting! God Bless!

From the other forums, Guys say slightly angle it at the glass!- "good to get those long bass waves moving without canceling themselves" etc...

I'll post pics when I get finished with everything!

I have been convinced to replace the 6x9's with the (EDIT 6+3/4") mids in the stock rear location. They're bigger than I thought!

The tweeters are movable- so I haven't hooked it all together to test the sound on where exactly to place them... I may go all the way up to the front/dash with them. Or try them behind the seat somewhere- I have a flush mounting kit for them also- So I will just have to try them before I lock the tweeters in.
The package said try not to move them 12" from each other (mid and tweet), but since the sound is already messed with the "LEG SOUND" I figured why not. From what I've heard, they'll do no good in the rear!

Right now I'm working on a cheap amp rack- nothing special- just a board with a few cuts so far! But nothings together yet, so I have no way of checking anything for sound yet...
That may be another Weekend away!

Be back Later!

Addressing your front speaker locations, see this thread.

Thanks. Upon someones suggestion, I read a lot of your posts. That's when I got the Idea for the dash mounting the tweets. I have it 90% installed. Still working on wiring power to my amp board, the battery is still unhooked, so I haven't put any serious thought about tweeter spots. Once again- Can I separate my components with mids in the back- tweets on the dash. (I still have the two way 5 1/4"s in the foot-leg spots- so it MUST sound better!)
Damn! My weekend went by fast! Looking at my schedule- This won't be done until next weekend, or later. I'm taking pics along the way for a possible "My Ride's stereo" posting!
