Default dnx 7120 start up screen change

I am trying to follow the instructions below to change the start up screen, but cannot get the HU to recognize the zip file. The author of the instructions below says to attach the zip file to the root of your usb drive. I do not understand what the "root" is ? I have succefully changed the regular wall paper on the HU .
I cannot get the unit to recognize the convert.dat file. I transferred the picture and this file onto my thumb drive but the HU only sees the picture and can only place it on the background wall paper not on the start up wallpaper. Any body out there know what I need to do to get this right?

1. Download this zip file --> convert.zip

2. Unzip and put the convert.dat file in the root of your USB drive.

3. Load the image you want to transfer to the root of the USB drive and attach the drive to the DNX8120.

4. Enter setup mode by holding down the FNC and eject and then pressing and releasing the reset button. Release FNC and eject when the red light in the lower left hand corner comes back on.

5. You should now be at the startup image screen. Press the OEM button to add custom wallpaper. To load the OEM Kenwood image, press the Kenwood button.

6. Select the image you want to use from your USB drive and press enter.

It's kinda tricky, but you can do it.

Here's a thread on the AVS forum that explains it pretty well:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1033549

You need to unzip the convert.zip file first on your computer. It will yield a file named "convert.dat" or "convert" with no extension. If you get "convert.dat" you need to rename it to "convert".

The "root" is simply the highest highest level on your thumbdrive....ie, above any sub-folders or sub-directories.

Resize your .jpg to be correct and add it and the "convert" file to your thumbdrive and give it another shot. It should work.

Cheers,

Dave.

OK I am not sure what else to do. I have followed those instructions. My image comes up and I hit enter but it still does not keep the image on restart.

I have the inzipped "convert.dat" file labeled "convert"
and I have the image"apslogo" with nothing else on the thumbdrive. When I get into the sytem set up I choose "OEM", then I see "usb1" which I cannot change the name . This is what the HU calls the thumb drive as it sees it. When I click on it my image "apslogo" file appears. I choose it and the picture is on my screen with the option to rotate it or choose "enter". I choose enter and restart the HU. The Kenwood image reappears. I dont know what else to try except maybe adding ".jpg " to my image name ? It seems to me, maybe where the "USB1" file appears in the beginning may have soemthing to do with this but I cannot find a way to manipulate that level.
