Default Found optimum spot to mount Sirius antenna on C6 Z06 :)

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 2007 C6 Z06 with NAV and XM. I switched to Sirius using the SIR-GM1 Sirius tuner.

I first tried the XM antenna but it did not perform as well as I wanted. I tried mounting the Sirius antenna on top of the rear tail light opening (inside the rear fascia), like I had it on my C5 Coupe, but it didn't perform well either

I then mounted the Sirius antenna to the top of the headliner, almost dead center, and it works awesome! No more loss of signal

Of course you couldn't do this on a coupe since the Top is removable

I just removed the trim piece at the rear of the headliner and used double sided tape and duct tape to secure the antenna and the wire to the top of the headliner. It only took me about 30 minutes to perform the install and I was taking my time

If you have the same setup (Stock radio with SIR-GM1 tuner on a Z06) and are having reception problems then give this a try. It is working great for me

Just curious - but aren't XM and Sirius pretty much the same programming now? Why not retain the stock system?

There are a few stations that Sirius has that XM does not, plus I already have an account with Sirius and I just switched it to this tuner for a $15.00 transfer fee

Personally, I also think that Sirius sounds better than XM

It is the SIR-GM1 tuner that replaces the XM tuner in the left side of the rear compartment.

This post shows an installation in a C6 coupe just to give you an idea of what is involved. It is pretty much plug and play

SIR-GM1 Install

As long as you drive the car upside down I would say yes!

No the antenna for best reception is designed to be installed pointing up. However with years of GPS installations with remote GPS antennas you can mount it the way you wish by using silicone to attach it.

As long as the antenna is not covered by metal you can mount it anywhere. One of the best hidden places is under the cowl.

I guess these are not as sensitive as GPS tracking antennas then. I know the GPS tracking antennas will loose Satellite a lot if installed upside down.

Good thing to know.

It may work OK upside down but its designed to work right side up and is only working because its getting reflections off things which are clearly going to be weaker than the original source.
