I have a 07 C6 with a non-bose audio system. The car did not have navigation so I had the kenwood dnx5120 installed. After the install, the sound that I used to have was gone. It does not sound right at all. Before installing the unit, there was alot more bass. I have asked a few people and I was told that my subwoofer isn't working with the unit and the bass is just coming from the tweeters and speakers, not the actual subwoofer. I don't know if its a problem with wiring or just the unit itself. Does anyone know what the problem is here?

If you do not have the BOSE then I think you only have the 3.5" speakers in the doors which would never give a lot of bass. The best thing to do is get a nice set of 6.5 comps and maybe a sub. I just swapped to 6.5" speakers in the front and it is simple.
bose or non bose u have door subs, should sound better with an aftermarket not worse
who installed it, did they bypass the amp etc
because they shouldnt have, with the right harness it should sound great
check and see if they turned the highpass filter on on ur radio its in one of the audio menus

as well as 3.5 speakers in the door anda total of 7 speakers in the car
1 in the center dash
4 up front (2 on each door)
2 in the rear
seems like whom ever did you system might have not used the harness or might have wired something up wrong .
if you can post picks of the work behind the radio mabe this can give others some insight on what could be wrong .
on a side note i just did mine with a kenwood unit as well and my sound is great ..!
What is required to improve sound? Do I just replace all the speakers with higher quality ones? What exactly needs to be done? I want to take it one step at a time. First I will replace all the speakers and hopefully improve sound and get enough bass. After that I will think about getting a sub and an amp installed. Will it sound bad if I just replace the speaker for now? And what is the cost?

first you need to fix what is wrong .
your sound shoud have been a little better after the Hu was installed ,i know mine was .
I had a similar problem, but in a C4. I have a Bose system and just upgraded to a Kenwood DDX512, which is the same unit as the DNX5120, but without navigation. I installed it this weekend and when running tests I only had audio when the AM/FM tuner was selected. Hang with me on this one, because it is relevant. I could not get audio from any other source. Video worked fine and so did pictures, but no audio.
On the C4 the Bose speakers are powered by individual amps for each speaker. I wanted to keep the Bose speakers for now, because they sound fine and I didn't want to tackle swapping out all the speakers right now. Got the right device (Scosche SLC4) to match the new unit to the Bose amplified speakers. Sounded great on AM/FM radio, but nothing on anything else.
Turns out my problem was I had used the motor antenna control signal (blue wire) to wire into the harness. So, when I was using the tuner the antenna went up and the Bose amps turned on. When I switched from tuner to another source, the antenna went down and the Bose amps turned off. Easy fix was using the power control signal (blue/white wire) in place of the antenna control wire.
I post all this to say that if your sound is fine with the tuner on, but lousy with any other source you may have a similar problem. If so, it is a very easy fix.

Do you have chimes? If you lost your beeps & buzzers they didn't use an integration module like the Peripheral GMCO, this is required.
They may have done as Penta seems to be suggesting - wired the head unit's outputs straight to the factory speakers. This would lose you the subs for sure.
Either way, the answer is to hold your installer's feet to the fire and have them do the job correctly. Use a module like the GMCO, connect it up to the factory harness & the head and wire back in the factory connections to the speaker. All will work exactly as it should have in the first place.
