Default Kenwood DNX-8120 vs. PKG-8120 ???

Ok so I am all ready to buy the 8120 at Al & Ed's Autosound with a 50% discount from the LA Auto Show...

BUT
when I go and talk to them today they ask which one I want. I am like what is the difference? Says they are the same, but the DNX has everything build in while the PKG has the nav. and bluetooth externally. Either way they will cost me the same.

So I say what do you recommend? He says the the DNX is easier to install, but that he would go with the PKG. Says the DNX has everything squeezed in it and that it fails easier, while the PKG has them external and is not as prone to fail. Sounds good...

Now I am asking you. Is he telling the truth or is the PKG some older model, blah, blah, blah? Would the PKG have the potential to upgrade the parts eventually if I ever needed/wanted? Searched for a comparison and couldn't find one and actually don't find as much info. on the PKG.

Thanks for the help

i wanted to get the all in one unit but it was not worth it to me since i already had the nav unit from my other set up.

id say go with the all in one set up as you will have to run less wires and and not look for spots to put the other units in.

you can see pkg deal of this on cheap bay to compare.

wtf pkg-8120 thats like an al&eds package or something. They are taking the non nav model the ddx8120 and pairing it with the nav module

go with dnx hands down its not gonna fail, they are just desperate to sell the other ones

Kenwood could not keep up with the demand for the DNX8120. They created a substitute to ship out to stores over the summer. That consisted of the DDX812 and the KNA-G510 navigation add on. The bluetooth is still built into the DDX812. They priced this pair the same as the DNX8120 (even though their retail cost would be more). Since then, they have basically run out of both systems and it is becoming increasingly harder for retailers to find either one.

Agreed. I just installed a DNX5120; you have to cram a lot of stuff in the dash. Adding even more modules would be a pain.

Thanks for the help. Picked the DNX which they of course did not have in stock but I might get lucky and have it by the weekend.
