Little to No Reception

Installed a JVC HU and speakers to my 99 vert. Now I have very little reception. I found thru the search that there is a antenna booster that needs wired up with 12v and 5v?

Is there a DIY thread showing how to do this?

Another thought, can I just run another antenna wire from the new HU to the antenna bypassing the booster?
