Default Kenwood DNX-8120 on sale for $1,144 at eTronics!@#$

FINAL Update: Powered up my H/U, got f/w version & called Kenwood. These units have the most recent firmware version & Bluetooth software...Nice.

UPDATE: THESE ARE NOT THE UPGRADED UNITS…SENDING MINE BACK.
I just received mine and called Kenwood to see if they could tell me if my unit has been upgraded by the factory.

The tech support guy said that if there was not a sticker on the box stating that it was upgraded then it's not...Bummer.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I ordered mine a few days ago and it should be here next week...Woo Hoo! When I placed my order they had 25 units in stock.

I don;t know if they are the upgraded units. I sure as hell hope so. I know this is a newer shipment, because they sold-out of them two-three weeks ago when I tried to buy them last time. So I am hoping that these aren't the buggy old stock.

I read somewhere that there's sticker on the box saying that the unit was upgraded. It’s been at least six months since they have been out, so I am hoping that these are the latest units. If not, I may have to send it back.

The tech support guy didn't really go in to it but he mentioned that there were Bluetooth connection issues, Lagging interface issues etc.

I read that some of the early units shipped had lots of bugs. Let me see if I can find the reviews/posts.

Here's one post that I found:

2 out of 5

Good unit but with several bugs
Written By George, Burbank, CA on Thursday, May 22, 2008

Kenwood did a good job packing many beautiful features in a nice unit. the DNX8120 is mighty powerful in many ways. However, I think the unit was rushed out before most of the software bugs are ironed out.
The audio/Video part works great. but the GPS and the Bluetooth telephone connection have some problems. The Garmin GPS loses satellite reception periodically even in open areas on Los Angeles freeways. Also, the unit starts sometimes with the setup screen as if it is the first time you are running the program. You lose all your favorite POI and the unit initial setup. It is annoying to having to input the time zone, date, and other setup features few times a day. Also, the voice is choppy at best.
The telephone has very poor audio quality. Your voice to the other party is very bad quality and very choppy. Useless.
I am waiting when Kenwood and Garmin harryup a software or firmware fix otherwise I am going to return my unit to Kenwood.
I also read on other car forums that other people similar bugs... The above post does a good job of summarizing them. http://www.f150online.com/forums/hea...e-version.html This thread has information on the latest firmware versions: http://community.crutchfield.com/for...ead/39960.aspx

I did tell the eTronics rep that I would take a replacement unti if they had units that were upgraded from the factory.

FWIW, I talked to a Kenwood customer service rep and he mentioned that the shipping software version (not sure if this is the updated firmware version or not) is 2.2.9-320-323 or higher.

Thanks for the info~! I just powered my unit up by hooking it up to an extra battery that I had in the garage and I have software version

2.2.9-323-324

Bluetooth s/w ver. is 1.60

Woo-hoo! I just might have dodged a bullet. I am going to call Kenwood tomorrow to confirm that my software is up to date. Wish me luck!

UPDATE: Called Kenwood... I am good to go.... my firmware is fine and I should not have any issues.

Its not a big deal, all you have to do is download the firmware update from the Kenwood site.
