Default (Post) Install question. Help please?

I have recently installed a JVC KD-AVX44 headunit. Along with it, I have a Kenwood backup camera installed and functioning, as well as a KS-PD100 (ipod adapter).

I have a IPOD (generation 5 - with video) running version 1.3 of whatever software the IPOD needs to operate.

My problem: While the IPOD is recognized (as an ipod) and I can play songs both sequentially and randomly, I cannot control any of the IPOD menu functions (playlists, genre, artists, albums, etc) from the unit.

I can see the options and push the "up" arrow to get to them, but that's about it. I can't access the playlists.

If I can't execute that function, at a minimum, this configuration is useless to me.

Questions:
What could be wired wrong? (I had a professional do the install).
Is there any incompatibility between the H/U, the IPOD and/or the Adapter that I missed? Could the b/U cam be a factor?
Did I miss a setting or a dip switch somewhere?
The JVC manual does not address this problem that I can find.
I'm off to the installer today to ask the same questions.

I'm hoping that perhaps someone else here has the same setup and can either tell me it DOES work, or that the setup DOES NOT work.

anyone? Bueller?

Steve

update:

I got the USB-IPOD connection to work and control the IPOD from the headunit.

Now my question is: What purpose does the KS-PD100 adapter serve? Does it get me any additional functions that the USB interface does not have?
