Default The perfect no drill solution for an amp/cap in my C6 Z06

So... I needed a place to put my new PDX5 and capacitor and REALLY did not want to put it in the trunk area for security reasons and because I don't want it getting banged around or anything like that. The size of the PDX leaves me just enough room. So here it is!

Even with the seat all the way back and reclined it doesn't get smooshed. The whole setup is done with ZERO drilling or cutting on the car itself, literally just a drop in solution, and can be removed in 5 seconds if needbe Made of just straight aluminum stock from Ace hardware, with strategic bends, and holes drilled.

I think it looks nice. Remember if it takes you 5 seconds to get it out, it would take a thief 2 seconds

I just ordered a PDX amp similar to yours. I'm going to try under the seat. If that doesn't work, I'll mount it where you did. I've done some reading and lots of people place some wood underneath the carpet and then screw the amps into that.

Is there a mounting point on the bottom?....or does it just hook over the top?

just hooks over the top - slide it on then off in 5 seconds.

I originally was going to have a small screw point on the top to secure it in case of high G turns, but the setup seems to have fixed that itself because the weight of the amp/cap combined with the carpet and aluminum have absolutely no slip. There is not a single hole drilled in the car. One further thing that kind of helps secure it is the bolts sticking out on the bottom end come just maybe an 1/8' of an inch, which kind of digs into the carpeting a little bit. I'm VERY pleased with the way it turned out. You will never really see it but when you fold the chair up I wanted something that didn't look just duct taped together.

I believe it was 1/8" thickness and 1" wide, bought it in two 5 foot strips, for something like 3 or 4 bucks per strip.

Don't get me wrong i LOVE the way it turned out but if i had a proper shop with proper tools I might have wanted to go a little thicker stock. But you can only do so much with a granite work surface, some pliers, a drill, and a dremel. haha

can you fit it in one of the two compartments in the rear deck?

That's what I am looking at.

I haven't checked if you could fit a PDX series amp into the rear storage bins. Reason I havent tried is because I plan on picking up a stealth box that will pop down into the rear left empty bin.

I'm sure "something" would be possible if you went with a lightweight Carbon Braile battery in the other compartment. But at that point mixing high power amps with tiny batteries seems like a recipe for some kinda screw up.

curious what cap you went with? Since I'm getting no love on my thread I'm using the PDX-5 as well.

As a side note I'm very impressed with the PDX-5. The birth sheet came out as 104x4 and 395x1

thanks again for the idea toxin! I've got all my gear ordered and planning to head down to the local ACE or OSH this week to pick up the flat bar stock.

where did you ground it at from there. I have my amp mounted all the way in the back and found easy access to a chassis grounding point by removing a taillight.
