First off, let me start by saying im not huge audio guy, but i need to replace my Bose system in my 92 coupe. What i'm wondering is could i use something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tab%3DWatching with a bose wiring adaptor, mount the speakers in the bose enclosures, and use the existing speaker wiring? Would i have to run new speaker wires? With the wiring adaptor will my power antenna still work?
Please help a noobie!!
Sorry no on all counts.
1) you have an amp under the passenger seat, you could bypass it there.
2) Your Bose system is way better than the system you are looking at.
3) The biggest speakers you can put upfront ar 5 1/4 and 6x9 have been known to work in the back.
4) If you are going to buy a package deal, go to Walmart, That way if you have problem, you can return it relatively easy.
PS - Circuitcity usually carries all the adapters need to make use of your stock antennae and power supplies.

Thanks for the reply, My bose does not work currently so anything is better. (CD player wont work and i'm down to 1 speaker the rest hiss and screech) I don't want to go through the hassle/cost of taking out all the Bose HU and speakers and having it refurbished, if i could just replace it with a after market unit. Is there a way of replacing the HU and speakers without re-wiring the car. Thanks for the help!!!

1) you have an amp under the passenger seat, you could bypass it there.There is no amp under the pass seat. The CDM, which you will need to tap into for the power, ground, and antenna turn on, plus the radio antenna, is located in the dash, on the pass side. You will need to remove the hush panel to see it.
2) Your Bose system is way better than the system you are looking at. Complete BS, any good aftermarket system will sound better.
3) The biggest speakers you can put upfront ar 5 1/4 and 6x9 have been known to work in the back. If you read the FAQ, it is possible to use 6-1/2" componants in the front, and 6-1/2" round speakers in the rear; to install 6 x 9's, you would need a speaker box from a non bose system.
4) If you are going to buy a package deal, go to Walmart, That way if you have problem, you can return it relatively easy. Walmart sells junk. Go to Circuit City or Best Buys for your Head Unit and amp (if your using one). You can also order speakers on line (Ebay) and save some money, just make sure they are new.

While you can reuse the stock wiring, I would advise against it. New wire (buy at Home Depot or Lowes) is more work, but will work better in the long run.

Not sure where you are coming from, but I know the system he is looking at and it DOES NOT sound better.
Bose Gold systems on 91-96 DOES have an AMP under the front seat.
He was looking at a cheap system so that is why I sent him to Walmart.
Walmart sells Sony, Pioneer, JVC and Kenwood, just looked at them. They maybe a couple years old manufacturing wise but they are NOT junk.
You can put 6x9's in the rear without putting in a custom speaker box, I have seen someone with them.
Yes, 6 1/2 can be MADE to fit, but 5 1/4 will bolt up perfectly.
Check your facts before calling something BS.

Sorry, didnt know your system was down. Smart way to install an aftermarket system is to rewire, leave your old wiring alone, so that you can put your old system back in if you decide to sell. Leave the CDM in the car connected, I threw code all over the place when I took mine out to check it out.

If you are looking for the easiest thing to do, get your Bose fixed. Installing a new radio and speakers in our cars is not easy, but it will sound 10X better. By the time you are done, the new radio will cost more then repairing your Bose. When I did my car, I also repainted the console and bezel, bought and installed a new shift boot, install Sirius sat radio, and bought an expensive, but great looking faceplate for the new radio (pic below). From the cars I have heard, I should have installed an amp and subs in the rear speaker locations, but I will be doing that soon. I'll post some pictures when I'm finished.

Randy J75 I recognize the face plate as one from vrumvrum.(I just got one) He doesn't provide the backing plate anymore, but he says the install can be done withe appropriate Metra brand kit. Looks like it goes in the dash real clean thats what I want to do. My question is did you use the trim ring on that install or does the stereo "just fit" through the cutout. Also how did you get the faceplate to stay in place? pressure fit? Double tape?

Thanks for the kind words. It may sound crazy, but I'm getting ready to redo all of it.
Mike suggested that clear silicone could be used to keep the cover plate in place, but I did not need to use anything. I did not use the trim ring, as mine fit very well; I believe each radio would be different so it all depends on how your radio fits. Keep in mind that I painted my faceplate the same color as the bezel and console, so if your car is a '90 or '91, you may want to do the same.
Mine is a 94. where did you find that rubberized paint (called Dulcote?)
You cannot find it. '90's and '91's have a different color dash bezel, console and such, looks grayish silver. MAM sells spray paint the matches pretty well. If you want to repaint your '94's console and bezel, you would need to soak them in mineral sprits to remove the rubber, and then paint them flat black. You finish off w/ a clear coating to protect the paint. If you do a search, you can find a how to on them, I believe there is one in the Tech Tips section.
