Default Tip with Kenwood 5120 and Kenwood CCD-2000 Reverse Camera

I just did an install of the Kenwood 5120 with the Kenwood CCD-2000 reverse camera. At the end of the install I had one issue. The 5120 has the ability to switch on the camera by pressing the NAV button for more then one second and everytime we did that we would get a blank screen. Put the car in reverse and it worked fine.

The HU has a line that goes back to the reverse lights and the Camera also has a line that goes back to the reverse lights. I also grounded the parking brake line from the HU to allow it to play vid's while car is in motion.

I was on the phone with Kenwood for over an hour trying to resolve the issue. According to Kenwood, wiring the system to their spec's it should work... But the means the parking brake line is connected to the parking brake switch.

While I was on hold we decided to cut the reverse line from the camera that ran to the reverse lights and BAM we had both camera in reverse and when the NAV button was pressed for more then one second.

I just wanted to pass along this info for anyone else that was going to install the same setup....

I know it dosen't Greg but it works like it should... Even Kenwood was confused... Maybe having the parking brake line grounded is the key... I also mentioned it to Dennis and he was interested in it as well... All I know it fixed the problem and just wanted to put a heads up here for anyone else that maybe banging their head against the wall trying to do the same as I was doing....

Wayne is right. This install was done in my car and the head unit, blue tooth, Ipod, wiring and camera was installed by Wayne. We wired everything according to Kenwood diagrams but had this problem. Cutting the reverse line from the camera that ran to the reverse lights solved our problem. It took us almost 2 hours to figure this out. Even Kenwood level II tech was lost on this one.

This was just a heads up post for anyone else running into the same problem.

Thank you Wayne

No Problem Buddy... It was my Pleasure to do the install for you... I wish I would have had more time and more stereo stuff to install to give you a real killer sound system....
