Default C5: double din radio + stock everything else question

Title says it all-- I just finished re-doing everything audio in my 1998 jeep 'niner, and am getting the bug for the 'vette-- a few questions:

1) What double din HU is comparible with the stock amps/speakers? I am pretty happy with the sound quality of the stock speakers and the only thing I think I'll change is to add a subwoffer, eventually. Something with GPS and XM would be a plus.

2) I've read the faq, and REALLY like the look of the modded audio/hvac cluster but, to be honest, really don't feel like doing this mod my self (I can handle all things electrical, most things mechanical, but when it comes to anything requiring aesthetics, I'm a mess). Does anyone sell a modded insert to use a double din HU?

3) I guess thats really all the questions I had, and really no reason to number them...

If you are going to spend the money on a radio, get rid of the factory speakers, IMHO. If not you'll need a PAC adapter to keep the factory amps and speakers.

To answer #2 C5KIDD (spelling??) (FV) sells them for around $500 with a core.

1) What kind of PAC adapter would you need? Isn't the output just a standard line out? Or is there something differnet? I know the vette speakers are amplified, but If I got a wire harness from crutchfield, what does the PAC adapter do?

2) $500? Holy crap.

The soundgate adapter number is now gmcrv2 (replaces gmcrv1). I just ordered one for my install.

Default double din install

if you just pm c5kidd he will supply you with everything you need from the radio to the bezel to the wiring, i just ordered the whole setup with the back up camera as well, i will post pics when i get it and start the install, dealing with c5kidd(Brian) was a real pleasure and the quality of his modifications to the bezels is great worth every penny (about $400)

it is actually much less than that, if you send him your bezel he will also give you a discount. I'm not sure what the actual price is but his work is outstanding and I have seen it in person.

oops...maybe he did up the price....
