Default System upgrade. Oh yeah!!!

The head unit and processor from the old system have been removed and the new ones installed. For those of you not familier here's the old setup: (CDA 7998, ERA g320, EPIC 150)

and the new setup: (IVA D310, RUX C701, ....EPIC 150 got to stay)

Other new pieces not seen are the PXA H701 (special thanks to Kale for putting up with my stubborn ass) hooked up with FIBER OPTIC wire. I also had to get more RCA cables now that I'm active. The IVA D310 is mated with a video bypass because I dont' care what the government thinks is safe. I want control over my system. When the government buys me a decent sound system, then they can tell me how to use it....()

Thankfully the amp rack needed little modification to accept the RCAs that involved a little trimming of the "ditches" that were part of the original. (more pics of that tomorrow) The biggest pain was remolding the dash to fit the new display (which I'm still not happy with) It may be a while before I am though.

My initial thoughts of the new setup are freaking awesome!!! I panicked for a few minutes after tuning it on when my front speakers didn't work, however I learned that the crossovers had been set in such a way that there was no frequency allowed through (strange... but anyway) I haven't even started to mess with the PEQ and will probably stick with the GEQ until I get access to an RTA or similar. I don't have the huevos to attempt tuning a 31 band PEQ by ear.

for those of you interested, the upgrade cost roughtly $1100 but the sale of my old equipment (some sales still in progress) net me half my expenses. Not bad especially considering that this stuff new (say from car toys) would run upwards of $2500 pluss installation.

Spent 2 hours in the garage today tuning just the front channels. I now have an AUX input for RCAs in the D310 brain so I can play test tones streight from my computer. Xovers and GEQ are set and sound significantly better than with the passives. I can't seem to get the Auto Time correction to work so I guess i'll be programming it in manually tomorrow.

there's a package deal on ebay including both units new for $580 shipped. I bought mine pre-owned and saved $100.

Cutting and sanding....lots of cutting and sanding.
The EQ is only a display and is about 1" thick. The brain is sitting behind the driver's seat.
