Default Dash Speakers??

I just put nice new door panels in my '87 coupe and I do not want to cut them to install the original speakers. Since the car came originally with Bose the dash grills are just solid.

Will the solid dash grills come out so I can replace them with grills from a non-bose car and install speakers in the dash? I saw some dash grills at Ecklers. How do I remove them?

Thanks!

Take the dash pad off. They are bolted in from underneath.

from there, its a small matter to create new speaker grills.

Also, there are no good sounding full range speakers that will fit there, mix that with some NASTY reflection issues, and well... unless you really have zero interest in your stereo sounding good, I'd avoid it entirely.

I was wandering around in Crutchfield's site, and saw that they had baffles that would fit 4 inch speakers. I'm clueless- would that help the reflection issues you mention? They looked like the cup holder inserts I bought for my 88L a while back!

Getting rid of the windshield or covering the windshield in egg crate foam would be about the only way to get rid of the nasty effect of up firing speakers.

Thank you- I never thought of that!! If I may indulge you for one more question- I keep the roof off >50% of the time. How does that factor in?

mho, your system will sound better at stoplights, because there are less reflections (Side glass, roof) but sq goes out the window when moving... literally and figuratively.
