Default Replacing 1996 BOSE GOLD Speakers??

Hi all,

Debating now whether to change out my BOSE (or BLOWS as some of you refer to it) for an aftermarket system. I have the BOSE GOLD upgrade from the factory, and I dont think it sounds BAD at all. But, I know it could be better :D . Dont know a thing about speaker sizes though. What size are the front/rear speaker setups able to take (with Bose option)? 6 1/2 front/ 6x9 rears? I like the a/d/s units as I used to see alot of them in my BMW days. I'm trying to get the best mid-range/bass that I can get out of speakers alone. I dont want to go the sub route yet. Would a/d/s fit the bill or would JL Audio be my best bet? Thanks, this department really isnt my forte, and I would really appreciate your opinions.

You can do 6.5's front and rear components like I did. I'm not running a sub, but get pretty good bass resonse from the speakers. If you're looking for good sound quality, I'd definately do the ADA over JL. Just find a set of speakers that sound good to you.

i overhauled my 92 system with 6.5 rear and 5.25 front with the stock enclosures. here's some pics.

dunno how different your 96 system is. as far as replacing just the speakers, i'm not so sure how much of an improvement you will get. you'll have to buy that AudioLink adapter found in the "reviews" section, or some comparable interface.

like you pointed out and probably were inferring, you can always improve upon the Bose by replacing the entire system, but hey, it depends on what your listening requirements are and how deep your wallet is. :)

as for me, i replaced my entire system with a sony MP3 player (cheap CD changer to me) and Polk components all around. as hindsight i might've gone with the Alpine MP3. didn't have the cash for an external amp.

The problem is that the BLOSE, I'm onea dose guys, has the wrong ohms coming out from the amps. If you hook up aftermarket speakers without changing them, you're asking for trouble. JL Audio shouldn't even be in the same post with A/D/S. Its good stuff but not even close to the quality sound you get with the top brands. Other real competitors would be Focal, MB Quart, and Boston Acoustic Pros. I personally like the A/D/S as they sound the best to me. I wanna hear Focal Utopias first though. I have the bostons because you can't beat the price (free). Hope this helps.
