Default Couple of questions on DNX7100

Ok Just installed the DNX7100 and I wanted to do a couple of updates but not sure how to do them. I've searched the forum and Kewood manuals and came up empty.

1. To do the Firmware update, I unzipped the firmware to a SD card. Were is the SD card on the Unit? I suspected it was behind the screen but how do you get the unit to lower the screen more to swap out the SD Card?

2. I want to change out the wallpaper on the unit. I have a USB device that I can use. How do you get into a mode that will allow you to upload user wallpaper's?

So far so good. I love the unit.... Just need to get these last couple of items straight.

OK I found the SD Slot and inserted the SD card. Now what do I do? Should it not start a firmware update?

Now only the Firmware update is outstanding.

How much did you pay for it and what interface cable did you use to connect to the OEM wiring?

Load up the backgrounds on a usb drive... Connect it to the DNX7100.. Then go into User Interface of the DNX7100 and select User Background Memory.... It's on page 74 of the user manual.... Easy once you figure it out....

Purchase the unit on Fleabay.... New and reasonable.... Just used a normal harness you would use for any stereo for a C5... Actually only used two wires into the factory harness, ground and power antenna...

What firmware version does your DNX have (2.3 or 2.4)?

2.4 is the latest version that should be standard on most units that are out now. But if you have 2.3 version, this is what you need to do:

  1. Create a 'garmin' folder on an SD data card (must be at least 16mb space available on the card).
  2. Download the appropriate self-extracting archive file onto your computer hard drive from garmin website.
    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/do...=010-00534-00&
  3. Run the downloaded executable file.
  4. Click on Browse and select the SD card reader in the list, then select the 'garmin' folder.
  5. Click Unzip to save the files onto the 'garmin' directory on the SD card.
  6. Wait for the message that the update was unzipped successfully and close the updater.
  7. Safely remove SD card from PC.
  8. Insert SD card into Hideaway Navigation System. If there is already a card there, temporarily remove it.
  9. Your Hideaway Navigation System will ask if you would like to update software. Answer 'Yes'.
  10. The update will begin. Do not power off unit while the update is in progress. When finished you can verify the update by checking the version number in Menu->Settings->About->Software.
  11. Remove SD card.

Thanks 30MilesOffshore, but I have read those instructions over and over again. When I unzipped the file it only created one file for the garmin folder. I believe it was a gcd file. It's home and I'm at work....

Do I need to be in the Navigation section of the unit for this to work?

I'll try it again tonight when I get home.... I'll do it with the Nav screen on... I'll also check what software level it is running on the Nav side before I attempt the upgrade again.

Check your current version number before you put the card in there. Go to Menu > Settings > About > Software.

I do believe you have to be in the Nav section for the update to take effect b/c the update is provided by garmin and not by Kenwood. But I have not updated mine, so I could be wrong.

2.5? I guess you have the latest version already loaded on there. The one on their website is listed as 2.4. But they could have a 2.5 version out there and have not made the updated version available on their website yet. Anyone else got version 2.5?

I would consider yours to be fully updated. That's why it's not reading the SD card w/ the 2.4 version loaded on it.
