I am going to replace the stock non-boise sterio/system in my 96 LT4. I am not a "sterio" nut but do like good sound. I have the facilities to do the owrk myself and intend to do so, however I do not have the expertise to select a really good system. I am looking to spend less than $1000 (way less if possible). I know I need a new head unit and speakers however I am not sure what else. I am looking hard at a bleupunkt Kingston because I want both blue tooth and IPOD control (I believe this can do both with the appropriate adapters). I am also looking at rockfordfossgate speakers (not sure of which ones). Anyone have any tips, suggestions, etc? I am not "locked" into any of this, however I like the "look" of it. I understand that all of this is opinion based but I also realize that it is easy to make big mistakes here. I appreciate any assistance in advance.
I used a Kenwood HU because I have liked their Excelon stuff in the past and I really wanted the USB connector for playing MP3s. Polk front speakers, ED nine.4 amp, RF 8" subs for the rear. Almost a year later and I'm pretty happy with it. I do want to move the amp out from behind the passenger seat...I don't like the loss of leg room for the passenger. I'm planning to just mount it to the hatch area behind the driver and under a box.
thanks for the info and positing the instructions (I will try to document mine as well). I guess some of my quantry is whether or not I need an amp and/or a cross over. I really like what you did with the speakers and I will probably do exactly the same. Like you I do like or want the amp behind the P-seat so I will investigate that before starting. In a perfect work I want to run a blue tooth and Ipod controls. My intent is to have it look as stock as possible.
No problem. You could come by this weekend if you'd like (Sunday I guess is all that is left). I've spent the day installing new front speakers in my Mazda 3 today.
email or PM me and I can give you my phone number.
