Default question about putting xm in c6 vette

hey guys i have a 05 c6 with the nav package, but it doesnt have xm. would it be possible to put the factory xm in the car? how hard/expensive would it be? and could i hide the antenna in some other place so i dont have to put it on the roof of the car? thanks for the help guys.

As a C5 owner this is not really my area but I'm guessing there's not much difference (other than the C5 didn't have XM!). You can probably install the factory setup at great expense, but why bother? Get a Roady 2 (or similar) and use the FM option, or search for wiring harnesses that connect to the factory wiring (avail for C5s, not sure about C6.) As for the antenna, roof mount won't work so look for posts on mounting inside the rear bumper; I've got mine mounted at the base of the windshield in the wiper tray - works fine.

I am fairly confident that adding XM to the factory NAV *can* be done. But as pointed out by jwight the question is more what are you willing to spend. Expense-wise an aftermarket solution like the Roady will be far cheaper, but you won't get the integrated control.

If you don't mind spending more cash, then you need to see if the factory harness is present first. I have been told by other members that when they looked it *was* there even though their car wasn't factory XM and that would save alot of aggravation. For a coupe it would be under the carpet over the left rear wheel. For a vert it's under the waterfall, and that involves removing a few torx screws and a few christmas-tree pops.

If you find that you have the harness, then you need a tuner and the antenna. Routing the antenna back to the bumper support has been done and for XM it seems to work ok from what I've read(Sirius is a different beast, much harder if not impossible to pull in a reliable signal in a Vette). I'm not sure if it's just plug & play or if the dealer will have to do some programming. I've also read that the radio will recognize the unit once it's powered up and you will get the XM1/XM2 button on the NAV screen.

I've said alot of "I've read" here because I have never done this personally, nor is there a thread I know of that I can link you to where it's been done. Hope there's something helpful in there for ya, that's all I got.
