Default double din - cutting out the old brace??

Okay guys I need some moral support.

I've been out there 30 minutes with a dremel trying to cut the radio support out and haven't gotten even one rivet done. The dremel (actually Ryobi) doesn't have any guts so as soon as I put pressure on it, it slows way down. Damn thing just quit from over heat.

I gotta be doing something wrong.

Pentavolvo and I tried the Dremel and a hacksaw blade.
The we got out the big guns and was done in about 1 minute.
This is what we used. Just be careful and you will be fine.
PS get a shop vac ready for all the metal shavings!!

You have no idea how close I was to getting out a torch!!

I did try the hacksaw blade and finally got the radio bracket rivets cut. (Oh by the way, I burned up the dremel motor and have to take it back )

I have a sawsall but am really afraid to go in there with it. Patience is my only option I guess.

Once the "heads" are cut off will the bracket pry out pretty easily or will it still fight back?

Thanks,

Just put the blade between the bracket and side wall of the cage and cut, you will then be able to use the old bracket with the sides on it to remount back into the cage where you need it to with either drilling holes into the cage and bracket or trying to screw into the bracket and through the cage. I will warn you the cage itself is very tuff and hard to drill into, we broke a bit or two.
If taking the cage out, be care with the shifter if you have an auto. The shifter cable is not flexible and will get messed up and will need to be replaced.
here is a pic of mine cut up.

Default Update ---------

Okay, I've had it, here I come!

Just kidding

But I got it with this...

See??

Now--- Whats this stuff? Is it associated with the old radio? Can I remove them both?

Thanks guys, this is a little over and above what I would normally tackle and my buddy is slammed replacing the fans in his Lightning.

I believe the box with the bright yellow connector is for your AIR BAG!

I don't have a clue about the other box. I'd just leave them...

Thanks, that looks easier than what I was first trying but this---

actually worked pretty good. Patience was the key and it cam out very clean. The bracket is entirely intact and the very small rivets that are left in the frame are no where near where I'll be reinstalling.

I''m pumped now. Just gotta get a chance to go back out and finish.
