Default What do you prefer for Sub's size's for C5

I have c5 coupe. I just like to know, Is it better to have one 12 inch Sub or 2 10 inch Subs?

What's the difference in sound and what do you prefer?

Give me your opinion please. Thanks

I like one big friggin 12. I have an IDMAX in a sealed box at 300watts. IT kind of hurts. Next week, it will have 1200 watts feeding it.

Dual subs are nice too... but I'd go with the big 12 every time in this car.

A pair of 10s have 30% more surface area than a single 12, though. This doesn't accurately cover displacement because of factors like Xmax...

I am having a JL 13W3 put in. I have yet to hear it in my car. But when I was at the Audio shop the guy cranked it up and I mean this thing HIT HARD. So I am going with one 13 in the center storage compartment.

I think the question that needs to be answered first is what do you want out of your sound system? Do you want killer loud hard hitting bass or are you just looking for something to give good bass SQ?

I didnt care anything about having a system that will rattle the windows of every house on the block.. I just wanted good quality sound.. so I went with a JL10w3v3. It is perfect for what I wanted.

What you are talking about is more a function of enclosure design than anything else. Ie: a ported box tuned to 40hz will sound a hell of a lot louder than one tuned to 28hz, but the one tuned to 28hz will probably sound better.

However, a nice hefty sub with a little juice will give you serious slam, and awesome SQ. A sealed box is fine in a C5, mho, because if the sub is aimed right, the response is very good. My sealed IDMAX is just as loud at 20hz as it is at 80hz.

Once you have a sub that's a 'little too much' you can tone it down.

When I want to bump, I set my sub's volume to full, and move the crossover to 80z. When I want it to blend with the front stage, I move it to -4 and down to 63hz. At that part, it sounds like all the bass comes from the front speakers, but it's still very strong.

Any good head unit will make this adjustment very easy for you.

In a properly designed system, you can go from Classic, to Speed Metal, to Folk, to Rap, and everything will sound fantastic.

Same here, I only want to get good quality base so I can hear the drum hits, etc. I'm going with a single 10" with 300W.

If you want people to hear you thumping your way down the street for a couple blocks you may need soemthing larger with a couple thousand watts driving them.

It is crazy to me how common "1000 watts" or "a couple thousand watts" is thrown around these days for bass. The loudest car I ever sat in, way before the ghey "burp" days and contests, hit 158db with 16 10" atomic subs tuned to like 39hz. That truck had 2200 watts. You could not sit in it without pain. Now every hard hitting car/truck riding around has some hifonics or fosgate 2000w amp in it with 2 12's. Just is crazy to me. I guess to each their own .. I wonder if the fact I don't want bass you hear 2 blocks away makes me old

I was toying with this question before I built my system. 2 deciding factors for me were:

1) I was using a classic C5 center cargo bin box. the dual 10" box didn't provide enough airspace for the two JL10w3s i wanted.

2) The amp I decided on (JL 500/1) was reported to be a perfect match for the Jl 12w6v2.

Overall result, i'm extremly pleased with my choice. The sub provides tight powerful bass excellent for everything from symphonic music to hard rock. I also installed an Epic 150 harmonics processor so when i really want to have "testicle smashing oontz", i push the "restoration" feature and i get a whole new level of boom.

I recently had the JL stealthbox installed and it hits pretty damn good and loud without any distortion.

If you decide to go with a single 10" I have a box for sale at what I think is a pretty darn good price...
