Default Early C4 speaker mounting

I've got an 88 that was originally equipped with the Bose system, but now has an aftermarket setup.

I've got a set of Pioneer 6x9's for the rear, and a lot of what I'm reading says that these should drop in and bolt right up. They drop in no problem, but the mount holes come nowhere near lining up so they just kind of sit there loose.

I could probably go through some trouble of making some mounts, but I'd like to hear about how others have gotten around this issue. Is there an off-the-shelf mount kit I can buy to secure the speakers?

The C4 Audio FAQ also mentions that an 8 inch sub for the rear, but I don't see how one could possibly fit in there. Maybe it was just talking about using the rear compartment behind the seat, but I'm not interested in doing that. If they could be made to fit into the original speaker location without cutting, I'd probably do that as long as I could mount them.

Basically I'm just looking for a solution that leaves me with well-secured rear speakers that does not involve cutting or custom fabrication, although a commercial mount is fine. I would also be interested in hearing from someone who is using rear 6x9's in a car that originally had Bose, with no aftermarket mount.

I just finished doing this to my '88 a few weeks ago - I put some Alpine 6x9s in the rear - replacing my Bose units.

Like you, I was disappointed that the new speakers did not line up with the exisiting holes (although the speakers fit nicely in place!). I also didn't want to drill new holes.

What I did worked just fine: got some plastic tie downs and threaded them up threw the holes and into the speaker holes. Be sure to pull them TIGHT. With four in place for each speaker, that speaker isn't moving. Cut the access plastic off, put the grill back on, and job is done.

I'm sure it's not the most professional way, but it works.

Good luck!

Chris

Thanks for the responses guys. At least I have confirmation now that the holes don't line up. As I said earlier, I've read some people mention that theirs lined up perfectly.

I'm going to assume maybe they had the mounts Bogus mentioned. I'll get in touch with them. Thanks again.
