Seems like a very good price. The only problem being that you'd have to take out your CD every time you wanted to use navigation. Since I use my iPod a lot, that wouldn't be a huge deal.
I just read a write up on it in the most recent crutchfield. It does seem really kool!.
I went with the Eclips unit with two seperate drives. One for the Map and one for the CD/DVD... I Love it
I just had a Kenwood DNX7100 with Garmin navigation installed. The navigation is in the hard drive. It seems like a great unit and several hundred dollars less than the new Pioneer Z2.....

I just had this unit installed this past weekend. I haven't had much time to go thru all the setups or the nav portion but so far this unit rocks for the price. The ipod interface is very well done and since I use the ipod exclusively when listening to tunes, changing out the cd/dvd is a non issue for me. I debated getting the bluetooth adapter but haven't decided on it yet. I can always add it on later. Here's some pics of what it looks like installed. What's nice is this unit allows you to change the color to match your interior.

Looks great!!
Where did you have the install done?? Any info would be great as I am considering this unit as well.
my avic-d3 was just delivered today and awaits my arrival at home. i'll post some pictures of my install when i put it in this weekend. i ordered the bluetooth adapter, but apparently it is hard to find and still on back order from crutchfield(they have an awesome deal right now on pioneer[15% off 3 items 49.99 or more] and free rear camera with the avic-d3 purchase). i still don't know what i'm going to do with the rear camera.

I got it done at 6th Ave Electronics. They offered free install with purchase so I said why not. And the guy that did my install made it so I can play a DVD or reprogram the nav while the car is moving.
I have the Pioneer Avic-D3 in my 2006 coupe and like it a lot. I like the hard buttons and hard volume control as opposed to other units that just have soft keys.
The mounting kit from Crutchfield makes it look like it came from the factory. Pioneer also built in small touches like being able to adjust the color of the buttons and set a custom startup screen. I set the buttons to match the DIC color exactly and my startup screen with the Corvette Crossed Flag emblem makes it really look like it belongs there.
My installation also has the iPod cable, bluetooth adapter, free remote camera, and a PAC chime module. I have not installed the camera yet.
I made room for the bluetooth adapter and camera power supply by removing the stock amplifier. The Avic-D3 has a configuration to have a seperate subwoofer output that I ran to the door subs. The door midranges and back midranges get wired to left and right channels in that config, so there is no fader control but that isn't too bad in a coupe.
I removed the center speaker and put the GPS antenna in there so it is hidden nicely. Great satellite reception from that location.
There is a hole in the trim above the rear view mirror where the bluetooth microphone fits really well.
My stock non-bose stereo did not have the VSS speed sense wire, so I had to pull the dash to get to it and also tapped into the parking light wire right next to it for the illumination wire.
There are no sd slots or usb interfaces on the AVIC D3.
There are audio/video input jacks on the front & back of the unit and the iPod interface is built-in. For each of those to work all you need is a cable.
I just had the D3 put in my '01 Vert two weeks ago. Bluetooth makes it easy to voice dial my cell phone. Rear camera is cool, but so wide angle it isn't much good for avoiding objects behind you; but at least you can see objects directly behind you and in the Vert that's a big advantage when the top is up. The iPod adapter is in the glove box and works great. The front input jack is great when someone has a music player other than an ipod (like an iTunes phone or a Zune, etc.). The nav/dvd in a single slot is somewhat of a pain, but when you program your destination and then pull out the nav/dvd to put in a cd or a movie, the unit remembers the course for about 50 miles. Then you have to put it back in and it will update and continue. Another problem is if you just want to have the map show where you are as you are driving while playing a cd/movie it sometimes takes a half mile before the system puts you accurately on the map; sometimes you're shown off in a field or whatever, next to the road you're on. Now I'm using a bypass to play movies/program directions while driving, so maybe that messes up the gps slightly. Seems to be getting better as time goes by (could it be learning my home area?).
The nav system is quite good although my wife's Prius has more extensive street naming abilities. But the voice directions are great; viewing options are extensive and the color changing scheme is cool, although I like it with white lights to match the rest of the interior.
The sound is great btw, with a JL 300/4 amp and a 10" sub in the rear compartment and JL 6.5 components up front.
So for more than $1K less than the Z2, I'm happy with the slight inconvenience of the single slot D3 system. In fact my biggest complaint is that the digital clock in the D3 is so small and moves around with different screens. I'm putting in a 2" VDO clock where the ashtray is that looks completely stock.
When I get my act together, I'll post pics. Good luck!

Have you tried using sd cards loaded with mp3's connected to a USB adaptor? I use 4gb sd cards for my music and was wondering if I could still use them with this unit. How do you like the unit overall?
Thanks
