Default Installed Jensen VM9311TS Indash DVD Player, probs w/ebrake wire!

I just installed my new HU, which is the Jensen VM9311TS Indash DVD/CD player. I messed up buying the GM wiring harness and connecting it to the harness that came with the HU then plugged it into the stock harness. I figured out the hard way that the power lead isn't plug and play so I grounded it on the 22 fuse, but I didn't realize I would lose my stock amp and bose subwoofers. I did some research tonight and found a couple harnesses that allows you to keep the amp and subwoofers but running anywhere from 55-95 dollars. That don't concern me too much, it's the pink wire that says "caution its the law to install this to the emergency brake" that concerns me. I knew that if I installed that wire to the ebrake that it wouldn't let me view the dvd player unless the car was stopped, ebrake applied. Therefore I didn't install the wire and just capped it off, but after I have everything hooked up and pieced back together, I can not watch dvd's at all because of that wire!! I know theres probably not a way around it since the screen is built into the HU, but if anybody knows a way around it where I don't have to hook up that wire to the emergency brake I'd appreciate it. I've never hooked anything up to the ebrake anyways, if you guys have some tips for me any help will be appreciated greatly

Just put the wire to ground, that should take care of it.

Also the e-brake's sensor engages with 1 click. So if you pull the brake slightly you won't engage the brake just the sensor.

I learned that on my 99 Z28, when the headlights would come on if I wanted them or not.

One click.

I HADDDD that exact same screen in my truck... ONE PROBLEM... Ive seen with EVERY ONE who has had that screen is that it will blink out... You will have to turn the car off to get the screen back on. It wont happen at first, but give it a few weeks maybe even a month and you will see it. I got rid of it as fast as I got it!!!

thats not what I wanted to hear....when you had yours did you put the ebrake wire to a ground or have to hook it up to a toggle switch? I don't want to hook it to the ebrake, that's retarded to only be able to watch a movie when the ebrake is applied. This unit has a blue screen and asks to emerge the ebrake then you can watch the movie, hopefully if I just put the wire to a ground it'll work

I ordered the soundgate harness to keep my stock amps and subs and installed that today, sounds good, but still don't have my dvd player working because the ebrake wire. Can someone help me out on where to hook up the wire to the ebrake? I've searched and haven't found anything on it...

Well... the manual says:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Parking Brake

Parking Brake Inhibit

When the pink "Parking" wire is connected to the vehicle
brake switch, the front TFT monitor will display video
only when the parking brake sequence is engaged.
Before starting the parking brake sequence, the radio
must be on with the video media disc inserted and
playing.

Parking Brake Sequence

There are two situations that can start the Parking Brake
Sequence (this is the preferred method). The timing
window is between 3 ~ 5 seconds.
• Parking brake is engaged (on) when the vehicle is
started or the accessory/ignition is turned on. To
activate video, the following sequence of events must
be completed:
a. Release parking brake for 3 ~ 5 seconds.
b. Reapply parking brake.
c. Video should be displayed on the TFT monitor
within 1 ~ 2 seconds.
• Parking break is disengaged (off) when the vehicle is
started or the accessory/ignition is turned on. To
activate video, the following sequence of events must
be completed:
a. Set parking brake for 3 ~ 5 seconds.
b. Release parking brake for 3 ~ 5 seconds.
c. Reapply parking brake.
d. Video should be displayed on the TFT monitor
within 1 ~ 2 seconds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to connect it to your parking brake, then just find the wire that leaves the parking brake switch and tap into it.

If you want to bypass the parking brake switch and activate your HU any time you want, then you need to install a switch that connects that pink wire to ground when you toggle it. Look to Radio Shack or even Wal-Mart to get a small switch to wire in series with that circuit.

If you want to get creative, look for a timer circuit that is activated at startup... should be pretty easy to make it work.

Hope this helps.

Mark

p.s. If you bypass the parking brake circuit and then wreck your car watching DVD's, don't come crying to me.

thanks for the post, I didn't want to wire it to a toggle switch for the main purpose that you said. If an accident does accure with the screen up, and it's not wired to your ebrake then you're in some serious trouble depending on how serious the accident is. I was wondering if anybody had pics where they tapped into the ebrake wire, because I still don't know where it's located exactly.

I programmed a code where I could run it without messing with a toggle switch or ebrake/sensor wire. If you have a Jensen model in-dash dvd player and want to do the same shoot me a PM I will let you know, but I will only provide this for informational purposes only and I will not be responsible for anything bad/stupid/ignorant you do with your Jensen unit.
