Default New alternator in!!

most of you know that i've been seeking a 200 amp alternator for a while. Well i found it. Thanks to Rush Power systems, i have a 200 amp alternator that fits the stock mounting bolts.

here's a couple of comparison pics:
(the new one is clean )

here's the new one mounted. it doesn't use the rear mounts but fits fine without them:

Cost: $475 shipped.

Though I never installed a HO alternator in the C5, I recall that there were some inherent problems with the ones that were available at the time.

I haven't had a chance to crank it yet. The rest of the system should be finished by the end of the weekend (finding time between school, work and misc errands has drasticly minimized my work time)

I will certainly let you know how it goes. I wish i had a good ammeter to test it amperage wise.

go to autozone, tell them you have a problem and want to check your alternator on the car, they will test the output at 2k RPM (you rev your own engine, they just measure the current output)

So, we are all waiting to see if any codes were thrown....

How much more parasitic drag is there?

from what i could tell there isn't any more drag with this model than the stocker. I ordered mine with a clutch mechanaism that allows the rotor to spin freely at idle (like a bike wheel)

First road test yielded no problems. Idles at 13.8 V (with the stereo going loud) and 14.4-14.8 volts at cruise.

Nice! Is there a website link or anything? When/if my stock alternator take a dump, I'll get this one.

This looks very interesting. I have been working on ironing out a few electrical upgrades to support the use of my carpc when the car is not running. I wanted to be able to show or use the system for a few hours without crossing my fingers when I tried to start it afterwards. I purchased an Odyssey 1500 battery, initially I am very impressed, I did a run down test and got over 3 hours with my system at decent volume.

Here is my possible dilemma, it appears the Odyssey requires a voltage of 14.7 to achieve a full charge and 13.65 to maintain a working charge of ~80%. I was told that the C5 alternator is PCM controlled and I see fluctuations from 12.7 to 14.4 from it, generally around 13.4 which is apparently normal.

So here are my questions:

If in fact the Alternators voltage is controlled by the PCM how do these HO alternators work out?

Is there a way to get the alternator to output a consistantly higher voltage?

In order to get the life and expected usage from the battery Odyssey wants me to purchase a special charger/tender for $150-$200 dollars that will keep the battery at full charge. Especially since I do not generally drive the vehicle long distances or on a regular basis. What do you guys think?

Thanks for any input.

Rick
