Default c4 box ideas, what do you think?

volume for BOTH 10" subs is 1.4 cubic feet.. probably not enough.
If I got really creative with the box design, and removed the doors and added "pockets" in the box.. i would have 1.9 cubic feet. I wonder if that would make it sound odd?

Minimum enclosure for the subs is .60, and max is 1.2 each, so I don't know how that comes into play.

Any ideas? I'm brainstorming before I begin to build this thing.

I'm looking at Focal Polykevlar 165K2 speakers for the front, powered at 80watts each.

Im probably going to power the subs at 250watts each or so, depending on what amps I can find.

I don't think I'll have any rear fill.

if the enclosure range is .60 to 1.2, anything around 8.0-1.0 will be fine. the smaller the box, the tighter and punchier the bass. larger will be boomier bass. so i think that you'll get away with a 1.4 cu. ft. box. just put some polyfill in there, and it'll be fine. those focals up front should sound mighty fine, and i woudn't go with rear fill either. also, if you mount the subs inverted, then the box will seem bigger to the subs, because the magnet won't be takin up that space. just wire them backwards and they'll sound the same.

hmn.. i have some REAL fine 4" speakers ill probably put in the back just for SOME fill, I'm sure i can mount them next to the sub.. or somewhere.

Are you sure you need 2 of those things? I have a single JL 10W0 in my full-size van that can leave the ears ringing!

That being said, have you checked out the space in R storage compartment; it's approx 1 cu ft. Could part of your box drop down in there and use some of that volume? You really need .75 - 1.0 cu ft per 10" sub, and only if Vas is small enough; many need 1.5 - 2.5.

I thought about cutting MDF and gluing together an enclosure from the inside; then thought about fibreglassing it from the outside (under the car). In the end I've decided that enclosure wall flex is not such an awful thing- if it's OUTSIDE the listening environment. So I'm lining the inside walls with a dynamat-like substance, dumping in 2 lbs of acousti-stuff, and bolting a thick baffle across the whole area where the compartment doors were. I'll know how it sounds in a few days; and if needed I can always go back and build up those walls.
