Default Need to remove Radio on 1994 C4...

Can I do this myself? I need to ship my radio off to Dr Don to get it upgraded and fixed. But removing it from the dash has me in standby mode now. Is there a step by step "how to" written somewhere that covers everything I would need to do? ...some instructions a highly inexperienced mechanic could follow?

Off the top of my head...
  • remove screws holding center console cover in place, pull it rearward (don't need to remove completely)
  • remove screws holding center vent in place, remove vent
  • remove screws holding radio bezel in place, remove bezel
  • remove screws holding radio in place, remove radio

Did you look at the C4 sticky at the top of the section? Lots of good info there. There is another place that fixes our radios, I think its called Factory Radio Service, try to google them, they have the best instructions for removing your radio. I would give you a link, but I'm in work.

Good Luck.

Randy

I've found several hard to read diagrams. The FAQ was not very helpful. Looking for a worded checklist of "do this, then this, etc." I'm sure one exists somewhere. Maybe some words from someone that has done this already would be helpful.

The C4 FAQ has the answer... apparently, I need to make the URL links a bit more obvious...

C4 Guru - Head Unit Removal 1990-1996.

YES!!! This is exactly what I've been looking for. My only snag is the part that talks about the shifter. Seems like I have to remove it? I have an automatic. In another reference, it says that I only have to pull back the shifter panel to access the two screws. Confusing...

shifter removal is rather straight forward.

1) remove the shift button

2) look down and see a ring clip.

3) remove clip

4) remove shifter.

If all you have to do is move the shifter bezel back to allow access to the screws that hold on the radio bezel, why would the shifter need to be removed?

You don't... so I thought I would leave you with the instructions incase you felt the need.

it is easier with the bezel out of the way...
