Default Custom C5 System Advice Needed--Thx!

I've considered my options to upgrade the Bose system, but I think I'll take the plunge and go for a whole new system. So far these components seem good to me, but I need your suggestions and comments. I want to keep the total to under $2,500 or so including tax and install. I want medium volume and clean sound. I don't think I need a ton of power or any rear fill in the Vette since the cabin is small.

Thanks in advance!

HU:
Alpine CDA-7873
Seems like a good choice since I don't need a wireless remote and the black color looks better that the silver faceplate with my car color (black/black).

Amp:
Phoenix Gold ZX475TI (4x75 wrms)
Should be pretty loud and clean, right?

Mids/Highs:
Focal 165K3 (3-way components w/ 6.5" midbass)
I can get a killer deal on these!

Sub:
JL Audio C5 Corvette Stealth Box (includes one 10W3D2 sub)
I like that it's hidden and looks stock, plus I can still store my targa top in the trunk.

You have proposed nothing to improve the highs. Speaker placement in the C5 is very poor. You need to use seperate tweeters pointing at the occupants head. The rear speakers are not in a sealed enclosure. This will be a problem if you want upper bass to come from them.

I would only change the amp to an A/D/S PQ 40.2. Its 100wx4. They are the best amps you can get and will really make the Focal's sing. I would also listen to the A/D/S seperates and MB quarts before getting the Focals. They are all very good but one usually sounds better than another as everyone has a different ear. If the difference doesn't justify the price difference, stick with the focal. Figure the amp would run about $800 and the speakers about $450-$500 for a set. Alpine head unit is good. If you could scrape up enough for another 2 channels, maybe getting an A/D/S PH60.2(75wx6) and add rear channel speakers it would make it sound fuller. It won't give you higher quality sound, just better staging and you will feel like you are surrounded by the sound. Not necessary but nice.

Default Thanks for the advice!

Seems funny that there are more choices for car setups than for home. Don't we all spend a bit more time at home???

Believe me, the range of home setups is exponentially greater than the car selection. Your original system should do well, I very much like the PG ti amps. Don't bother to swap the rears, all they do is hurt front imaging anyway. With the components up front, address the issue of tweeter placement, and you'll have a really nice setup.
