Default Some Questions Around AVIC Units in a C6

Hello.

I'm picking up an '05 C6 this weekend. For some reason it has an AVIC-N1 installed which blocks the AC vents. The Dx unit would look MUCH more factory and the D1 units have come down in price to where I could justify the swap especially considering I could sell the N1 for a similar price. I found this write up regarding installation of an Eclipse double DIN Nav unit which answers a lot of questions.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...highlight=AVIC

I have a few more questions:

I've pretty much decided on the AVIC-D1 mostly because of price. I have seen them going for ~$550-$600 on e-bay, most of which are refurbs. Any place cheaper? Any real problem with a refurb?

What is the difference bewteen the D1 and D2? The Z1 is obviously way better but out of my price range.

Any gotchya's I should be aware of with the D1 or tips or tricks?

TIA!

I used cardomain.com and picked up a new AVIC-D2 for $699 by asking them to price match Abes of Maine.

The unit is scheduled to be delivered today. So far they have been helpful in answering preliminary install questions. I will keep you posted to let you know how it turns out, hopefully the unit is in good shape.

Do you know the difference between the D1 and D2?

I did a complete write-up with pics on my install of an AVIC D2 in my 2005 C6. You will find all you need to know for the install there.

CLICKY HERE

BTW, I recommend getting the D2.

Flippin' sweet! Thanks!

I did some reading on AVIC411 and from what I gather the only difference between the D1 and D2 is the firmware which can be upgraded to the same as the D2 if you know how...

And "backups" of the CNDV-60M discs that are referenced in the above thread are on e-bay for $40. These disks also upgrade the N units.

I also got my Avic D2 recently for $697. delivered. From what I can tell from talking to Pioneer, the Avic-D2 is not Bluetooth compatible and this may explain the price drop from $1500. retail.Bluetooth is not important to me,so I grabbed one quickly!Car Domain is a great place to deal with. They get it to you very quickly, generally with free shipping.
