Default Warranty Question

Would the installation of a new HU in my 01 C-5 void my GMPP warranty?

Thanks

Dave

No as long as the new radio is not the direct cause of another componentes failure.

A little background... several automakers tried to make audio upgrades a voidable offense (as a way to make buyers get sucked into expensive factory options). SEMA fought and won one for the consumer.

GMPP doesn't follow the same rules as the factory warranty. They would have you believe different license plate frames owuld make the difference.

MHO, I would advise contacting your preferred place of service and asking them.

There is a law protecting the aftermarket/car owner from having a warranty voided because of aftermarket products. It has been around for as long as I can remember. One of my old bosses use to hand it out to customers all the time. I will see if I can find it.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Magnuson & Moss Warranty Act. This applies to the factory warranty. And this law favors the consumer if he has the resources to take a dealer to court if needs be.

But in any case,

GMPP isn't factory warranty, it's more like an insurance policy and part of the insurance policy is that it is void if the vehicle is modified in any way.

Actually, I don't see anything in there about mods at all, except that they don't cover failure of, or related to.

It must be Warranty Direct that I'm thking of, that's so cavalier about voiding aftermarket warranties.
