Head unit Crucial?

If I remove the head unit in my 96 Bose, do I lose anything? I know some of the later radios also are crucial to other systems. I have searched and searched, but can't find a step by step guide to install a modern headunit and retain the bose speakers.

That is something that you NOT would want to do. Bose will not deliver the complete sonic experance (I may have spelled it wrong, I'am a little drunk)
But you guys know what I mean, Right???
